I have not driven this car very much in the last few years. In the past if it idled for too long I would notice some smoke under the hood from what I thought was a leaky valve cover burning off a little oil. I ran the car for about 10 minutes before I could take my foot off the gas and keep it running on its own. I left the car running and came back in about 5 minutes and I had a fire under the car on the driver's side a little back of the firewall. I shut it off and hoped it would go out. I had to finally take a fire extinguisher as I saw the flame under the hood. It was not on the exhaust or converter. I have not gotten under the car to see what damage has happened. 351 engine with the variable venture carb. 91,000 miles on the car. Any ideas? I never want to have that happen again.
