After removing the speedometer assembly 1979 Mark V Cartier - DIY Tutorial - How to remove the dashboard and the car radio I need to repair my cartier clock which is not working anymore.

My clock is blocked and had an overcurrent which has burn the circuit behind the assembly, I had to solder a wire to repair it !

When I applied 12V few seconds on the screws of the clock, I heard a soft noise from motor then nothing and adjust knob are hard to turn then may be mecanism is blocked or dirty.

I want to unmount the clock assembly but I have a problem ==> how to remove the chrom knob of the clock ?

It seems there is a screw in the middle of the chrom button but I can unscrew it and I dont want to force.

Any help ?

Thank you for the link, I just sent a email , I hope they will help :)

Finaly I found by myself, yesterday I put oil in the chrome button from the back and with the glass side facing down during the night and with a pliers and a screwdriver I succed in uncrew the knob this morning :D

Then I opened the mecanism and problem came from the motor assembly , I opened the motor and replaced the 100uF 16V capacitor event if it seemed to be OK (but 41 years ...). I lub with silicone oil the plastic gears inside the motor and moved it gently manually and when I applied 12V power, it was OK and worked again !

Then my clock is repared, that's cheaper than a eBay one :giggle:

I received the answer just now, very efficient ! :D

UPDATE : Problem with the change of the day and AM/PM

In fact one plastic gear is tired and when AM/PM want to change it hardly works, but when it is the end of the day and the gear have to change AM/PM + Number of day , it needs too power and the gear slip and hour can't go more than 09h00 PM

I just do an attempt to release a little the long spring for the date change but if it doesn't work, I will remove it to only have working hour.

Finally I have disconnected the spring totally, then the lever can not force on the gears then clock is perfectly working without date.

I didn't found gears on aftermarket :-(

Bonjour,

i don't know if this post is always actual, but i have the same problem....from France !
