My Lincoln
1952 Cosmopolitan
Hello,

I am currently restoring a 1952 Cosmopolitan and need a wiring harness for it. The issue is locating one, I found some on Rhode Island Wiring Company, but they only have it for a 1951 and 1954 Cosmopolitan. Does anyone know if a 1954 Cosmopolitan wiring harness is compatible with a 1952 Cosmopolitan or if there is anywhere that has 1952 wiring harness? Any help is appreciated. TIA.

WElcome to the LOG. Sorry there is not a Cpsmo forum. This Continental Forum is for the latest generation of Continentals.

To the wiring matter. Rhode Island Wiring Company was operated by Jack Pease. He was a master however the flaw was everything or most everything was in his head or memory. Sadly he passed away. Since then, an effort has been made to continue the business with mixed results.

With that said the 52 and 54 Cosmo should be similar. However, that is a guess on my part. Jack Pease would ask for your harness and then reproduce it exactly. And I have heard the results were fantastic. The answer to your question may likely be found in shop manuals of the period for both years. While the wire colors may be different some. I believe the wiring diagram is in the back of the shop manual. At least it was in later yesars. A parts Catalog with an illustration and text may help too. If the service part number is the same you know you are good.

Lastly make a call to Rhode Island Wiring Company, they may have some info for you too.

As a post script, the reason Rhode Island Wiring Company has different years is because they got a car or an OE harness to use as a pattern to reproduce a harness or harnesses. If you are close by, have the time and effort, you might consider using your original as a pattern.

Just a suggestion.

No problem, would be hard to have much content on model that only lasted 6 years.

I appreciate the insight into Rhode Island Wiring Company and Jack Pease. I know that 52-54 Cosmopolitans are the same style, I just wasn't sure if the harness might have changed and I wanted to confirm before spending $2,000+. I have some books coming later this week that should help me to confirm the wire harness situation.

I did attempt to talk to RIWC, however they said that they only had exact replicas of what they have had to make previously and they weren't a hundred percent sure that the 54 harness would work with the 52.

Thanks

I have Ford and LM Master Parts Catalogs (MPC) for this very reason.
In my quest to find parts for many of my cars, I look up the part and find other vehicles that Ford used the same part. Some applications are interesting.

Unfortunately, the earliest catalog I have is 1960 to 1964. I don't own any vehicles older than 1966 model year.
I have seen some MPCs listed for late 1950s. Just not familiar with them or anything pre-1960

My guess about the reply you got from RIWC is because they don't know. And they may not "see" (or understand) differences between the 1951 and the 1954 either.
It was Jack Pease that did and they are working off of patterns or instructions or something left by Jack for those years,
I do not know this as a fact and I guess Jack had a passion or the talent to create a harness. And maybe he did for himself. Someone in the hobby looked at his work and asked if he could do that for them. He did and word got out. I also believe that Jack wasn't the best business person and may have operated at a loss on some applications. None of that really matters at this point. The relatives left are doing their best to continue on with a rather valuable service. I see this so many times that the subsequent generations do not have the same talent or passion about the business that the previous generation did.

Even this thread is kind of an indication of interest. Most users on this forum have interest in 1970 and newer Lincolns with heavy emphasis on the 81 to 2011 Town Car. Or anything built by Lincoln after 2000.
