19' NAVIGATOR CAM PHASER - ENGINE NOISY AFTER RECALL PERFORMED

All of the Navigators have the same engine/trans. So if I started up a new Navigator on their lot will it be making the same noises?

As for the thermostat it wont be covered under warranty. Everyone just pays out of pocket for the replacement. In this case if its not replaced with the revised version the engine/trans temps will be at 220+. When replaced its around 200. Thats.enough difference for me to pay out of pocket for the replacement. Eventually these higher temperatures will wear down the engine/trans/turbos prematurely.

I replaced my thermostat in my driveway and the old/new ones are totally different.

My 2018 Navigator transmission failed at 70000 miles thus I take these matters seriously for.my 2021.

All production before 2022 have the old thermostat design. I have attached a few pictures of old versus new design.

On any Lincoln prior to 2022 I would have the dealer replace the old one with the new one. They will charge for it, a few hundred dollars, but its good insurance. In any event all thermostats should be replaced around 70000 miles. I would also have a atf fluid flush done by the dealer every 30000 miles ($200-$300). Dont let a independent garage do any of this work.

Black tip is new thermostat. RT 1252


Whoever you get to do it have them show you the part they will put in and then tell them to save all parts to show you what came out. They put in a black tip and take out a bronze tip.

Two critical recalls on the 2021 are the
1) Electrical fire risk
2) Windshield wipers

They found the source and fix for the electrical fires. They can fix that as a recall.

The windshield wipers there is not a fix yet. Basically you are driving along and a wiper flys off the car Mine just happened a 47000 miles. I suggest inspecting the metal wiper arms. Give them a good pull and check for looseness. If loose make sure the lever is pushed in and tight.

Check the wiper arms biweekly and if anything seems strange like an arm not working check the base and push down on the tightening lever at the base. Its a small lever.

I checked the VIN and this particular vehicle has no recalls on it. My assumption is that it is because these recalls only affect a subset of Navigators and mine did not have the defects. Is that how it works?

My dealer has performed both recalls on my navigator a week ago on my 21 navigator L.

The wiper one it says they installed 2 new wiper arms. Looks the same i think the hole diameter where they attach is smaller

Its the same because Ford hasnt resolved it yet. So what will happen is after maybe a year or so depending on how much you use them one of the wipers will behave oddly. I looked at it closely and there is a small lever which creeps open over time releasing the tension on the wiper turning mechanism. Thus its a good idea to inspect the wipers monthly or sooner. Make sure small lever is pressed in and nothing is loose. If you can pull the wipers off with your hands its too loose. Ford is hoping to redesign these in the future.

Hello Everyone! We bought our Navigator used last Summer with about 13K miles on it. There was a recall on it and we took it to the local dealer to get that work performed. AS it was explained to me it was a two phase recall procedure and phase 2 which was the cam phaser replacement was only necessary if there was a rattling noise at start after phase 1 was done. We had that so they proceeded with the phase 2 replacement and needed the car for several days to complete this repair so I know a lot of work was involved.

I believe our engine now sounds way different than it ever did before. To me it is noisy and still rattles, it is louder and deeper sounding than it ever was. Dealer has investigated twice and claims they don't notice anything.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance for your help!

If you let it sit overnight, does your first cold start in the a.m have the cam phasers rattle? If so get the hardware replaced asap

Its 4 years/50000 miles warranty unless it has extended warranty.

6 year / 70,000 mile powertrain warranty should still cover these types of issues too.

I had the opposite experience with our '20. We took ours into the dealer to have some other cosmetic issues corrected, and the dealer called to tell us that our cam phasers were too noisy. I agreed, because on a cold start there was always a loud tapping and rattling noise present until it warmed up. Since the replacement, the noise at cold start is pretty much completely gone "for now."
