I shredded a tire recently with the storm here in the midwest.
Fun Fun putting the spare on in that on the side of the highway!
Anyways, I have 3 tires that have at least 3 more years left on them.
I've researched quite a bit on this subject matter and I can understand all sides.
This car doesn't have the BMW traction control, but I don't think it's a simple slip & grip type either.
I put a used tire on for now, but don't want to avoid a $750 bill for new rubber just to end up with a $4K bill on new drive train repair.
From what I've read, it all depends on the specific type of AWD system you have and what exactly was done.
As you can see from my profile, I have a 2007 MKZ.
The 3 'old' tires are: Bridgestone Serenity 225/50R17 94W
The 1 'used' tire is: Optima H725A P225/50R17 93S
Am I playing russian roulette? Am I avoiding one bill for a potential much larger one?
Looking for an answer specific to my situation. Not the rhetoric on the conceptual subject matter.
I actually took a pair of large calipers from my work and checked diameter of the tires and they're pretty spot on (obviously it was a rather crude measurement overall) and the tread wear is just about exact.
Thanks!
