My Lincoln
2001/Towncar Signature
Ok so i bought a 2001 Towncar from facebook and it was fine. After 1 hour of driving every light on the dash cut on exect oil light and battery light . There was vacuum code narrowed it down to the maf and repaired it. Then a few days later the alternator went out and i replaced that but after replacing the all the dash lights cut on again and codes p0155, P0554, p0171, p0161, p0174, appeared. It is also saying low oil pressure and there is a heavy tick, shacking, and water coming from the tail pipe. the body is perfect and there is zero rust so i want to save this car. Do you think i should just put a new motor in or can this one be saved..... if i do need a new 4.6 can i use the 03-11 4.6L with the 01 factory harness and computers or will i need those too.

Condensation from the tailpipe during winter months is usually normal.
I would start with the codes one at a time and work through them before condemning the motor for replacement

OP, you can replace a lot of relatively inexpensive sensors before an engine. To start, when you replaced your ALT did you clean all your connections, alt-bat, alt-gnd, bat connectors, bat-gnd? Cheap check to make sure the sensitive electrical system is running smoothly. I would consider an alt-gnd upgrade (just larger wire with new ends from alt case to body). Check oil level? After that (or right before), clear all your codes and see what comes back. Four are related to O2 sensors, maybe they're bad, can probably get factory ones on rockauto for relatively cheap (~$200?). Haven't replaced 'em on my car before, but can't imagine its too bad. Your power steering code may simply be from the frigid cold (depending where you are). My 1-ton van's tranny has been really unhappy the last couple mornings (dropping to ~0 overnight).

Thank you I will try to clean everything and mark my way through the codes 1 by 1
