My Lincoln
2005 & 2006
My 06 Sig Ltd trunk lid cover fell down as the threads in the plastic screw plugs became stripped. I checked with a local auto body supply shop and they said they had nothing generic that would work. I tried to use the screw covers from the taillights but they were too short to screw in. I Macgyvered a fix that is permanent and probably better than replacing the plastic threaded screws.

I went to the depot and got three 1/4" 20 thread coupling screws and screwed them into the posts of the trunk. I'm not 100% sure if that is the actual correct thread count but they went in 3-4 turns and are not going to fall out. Then I put some space washers in with a 1/2" bolt and it's fixed. There was a bit of a space so I just used a large enough nut as a spacer but anything like that would work. Permanently fixed and probably better than the plastic screw caps.

It's always nice when some one comes up with a solution and not a problem.

What I use is the I/4 inch drive nut that goes in the plastic V8 engine cover, they are 100% the same thread and counter sink in so nothing is sticking out to get caught when you put stuff in upper shelf in the trunk.

I WAS just scouring ebay for the things to screw in there and can't find them anywhere! Was about to post and ask if anybody knew where to get them and then I saw this!! So HOME DEPOT is my next stop!

Wish I have known about the screw for the engine cover. I just did a quick Amazon search and nothing came up. It would have been nice not have the extra spacers sticking out but I'll just leave mine. Not even sure how you would source a cap screw like that, other than just sourcing one at a hardware store/outlet.

If there is nothing in the aftermarket they would probably be expensive if the dealer could even source them anymore. My fix was probably about $10

Glad to have helped. As you may have seen it looks like the screw cap for the engine cover is a perfect fit. You take that in to the depot and see if there's anything like that kicking around. Other than that my fix will do the trick
