One of the plastic bolt covers on my roof rail popped up some how and for the life of me I can’t push it back down. I’ve tried everything thing I can think of. I have even tried removing it completely but can’t get the other side out with either a trim tool or flat head screwdriver. I really don’t want to have to take it back to the dealer for this and I’m worried water may be able to get down in there. See attached pic. Any help is appreciated.

Hi AndrewT. I understand your reluctance to take time to bring it to the dealer. However, my strong recommendation would be to have the dealer service department address this issue.

If it popped up once, it is likely to pop up again. Let the Dealership address this under warranty and avoid future issues.

I’m sure others will also jump in to help, so keep us updated, and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think that cover is waterproof.

Regardless, if it were mine it would go to a dealer.

If it is plastic, you might use some lubricant to reduce the friction.

Not petroleum products (oil based), products used to treat plastic/rubber/vinyl & leather.
An application of that may just remove enough friction to coax the cap to go back.
