Title.
Looking to keep the elegant ride quality, but add better throttle response off the line. Not trying to race just a little extra ummmpf. Was thinking throttle body spacer, afe stage 2 cold air intake, and 40 series mufflers. Would that make make it to loud? Also looking for a recommended tuner, I don’t mind a little attitude, just don’t want a muscle car sound. Just trying to wake that v-8 up
Not to give you grief, just want to inform you of how the Town car power train was designed.
History -
Overall, the Town Car was scheduled to be discontinued several times over the 30 year time frame.
However, the public kept buying them.
So, one of the first things done was to remove a lot of weight in the car. Owners for the most part were not towing or hauling a load. So why spend money building a vehicle that isn't being driven like that. In addition the vast majority of owners bought to be used as a low use transportation. And those owners tended to be older. Speed and power was not wanted.
When the modular engine came on the scene for the 2nd gen Town Car, all kinds of choices were available. Which is part of the resaon the modular engine family was called that.
The modular engine family came in 6 displacements for the US market. And most of those displacements came with different cylinder head/valve train and cam configurations for different uses.
The smallest (cheapest) engine was the 4.6l.
And the lowest HP 4.6l engine came with 2 valves per cylinder. Along with electronics that controls the power train not just the engine for the intended use.
This is the engine that was used for ALL Town Cars from 1991 to the end of production. It did the job and was cheap compared to other modular engines.
Because the vast majority of buyers rather have a lower purchase price than pay more money for more power. And ride in comfort.
Your request is to get a little extra ummmpf.
OK
But what you are starting with is the least powerful V8 engine available for that year.
Things that you do may create adverse driving experiences. Or may drain the wallet for no difference.
I don't want to discourage you. Just want you to know what you are starting with. In addition, the current power train has 15 years of use and wear.
Good luck
