Text messages with Sync 3

I am trying to figure out, with no success, how to delete text messages that I have read in Sync 3. This is in a 2017 MKX Reserve with Sync 3 updated to the current version. Once I read or listen to them I would just like to delete them from Sync, but not delete the text thread from my phone

Any ideas?

Hi randy. I am only making an educated guess here, since I do not read text messages over my SYNC 3 system: Is it correct to assume that text messages only display on SYNC when your phone is connected/plugged in? And that they can not be read/are not stored on SYNC once your phone is disconnected from SYNC?

If yes, then I would think texts may not be able to be deleted from SYNC, since they are only being displayed from your phone and are not stored in SYNC. You would need to delete them from your phone.

If I am incorrect (which is entirely possible), someone will certainly correct me.

In addtion, have you taken a look at the SYNC section of your Owners Manual for an answer to your question? It would certainly be listed there.

Thanks. I am guessing that all you say may be correct. But I do not want to delete messages from my phone since that would delete the whole message thread containing all past history in that thread. I only want to delete the current message in that thread, which is what is displayed in Sync. I currently have over 50 messages in the Sync listing after just 3 days. I don't know if there is a number of messages after which older messages drop off or if the list keeps growing. I would expect the former. As I mentioned my original post, in Sync 2 there is a delete all option that just deletes the displayed messages in Sync but does not touch the message threads in my phone.

I know it is a different vehicle, but I just was out in my Navigator. No way that I could find to delete messages within Sync or tell it to only save a certain number.

Here is a Sync 3 manual. I only quickly looked at the Phone section and did not see a way to delete or if only a certain number of messages is held.

Hi G-826459. Again, just an educated guess here, since I do not read texts via SYNC and haven’t had this issue:

If no one else offers a solution, I would try, in this order:
1- Call Lincoln Concierge and ask them for assistance. Hopefully they can walk you through a resolution.

2- If you’d rather try to do it yourself…Delete your phone from SYNC, and delete SYNC from your phone. Then reconnect both. Hopefully that will eliminate the unwanted texts.

3- If that does not work, you may need to perform a SYNC Master Reset. Follow the instructions in the Owners Manual for how to perform that reset in your particular Lincoln model.
