Motorcraft FA-1883 vs Wix 49883 Engine Air Filters

Both are made in the same Wix factory in Mexico.

Motorcraft filter looks like a piece of junk compared to the Wix filter.

Ford dictates to Wix how they want the filter made and basically its on a budget.

Wix's own version is how the filter should be made.

The airbox seems to fit both!

The greater surface area of the filter media in the Wix filter would indicate more air flow if the media were the same as in the Motorcraft filter. However, the mass airflow sensor would adjust to compensate for the difference either way.
On other words, bigger isn’t necessarily better.
I use Motorcraft air filters in my Lincolns while they’re under warranty. After that, I use whatever major brand is most cost effective.

On Rockauto the most expensive one is $16 whereas the "Economy" is $5. The Economy versions are usually found at oil change places. They get them for $5 and charge way more. The better quality is Fram and Wix. I usually default to Wix.

At 15000 miles the air filter in mine didnt look bad and I thought I could probably get 10000 more miles out of it. The filter was only $16 so I replaced it anyway.

If you're buying 'economy' filters for your Lincoln, you bought the wrong vehicle. :p
Or you do not know the difference.
Or someone else is making the decision for you like an auto repair tech or an auto repair shop.

Most people I know that own a vehicle with an entry fee of $50Gs or more have never opened the hood. They know the vehicle needs maintenance and are willing and able to get that maintenance done when it needs to be done. They just depend on professionals to make the decision of what is needed and how to fill the need. They just write the check and drive off.

You are correct. I know quite a few of those types of owners.

I keep forgetting we may not be representative of the majority. ;)

I do the majority of my own maintenance and repairs but even if I elect to job it out, I do my research and want to know the parts being utilized. Any maintenance and repairs at the dealer are expected to utilize OEM/Motorcraft exclusively.

To be clear. Do I trust Fram or Champion or some little known producer of filters? No. My trust is mostly with Wix.

Let me put this note. The Wix filter does not have a metal screen on it anymore. In the video its plastic. It might be the best filter, but not the best for keeping rats out. So if you have a rat problem than you are better off with a filter that has a metal screen. The Wix filter does have a superior filtration medium, but that wont keep rodents out. In my area here we do not have this issue.
