My Lincoln
2022
Started up after a short trip yesterday and got a message, "Driver Control Error" Service required.

OH BOY!

So I see what it generally means but now yet another trip to the serve department.

Seems to me that what Lincoln needs is NOT "over the top options" but cull the vehicle of non functioning irreparable garbage features.

If they take off everything that doesn't work they can't call it a premium vehicle. They removed the self parking this year and open on approach doesn't work. All high end competitors have these features and some have had them for many years. Not new technology

Open on approach?? Exactly what feature are you referring to??

Hi gang. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to how this feature works. What I found helpful was the official Lincoln video another member posted, explaining how the “Open on Approach” tailgate feature actually operates.

According to the Lincoln/Ford video, it does not open as we approach the vehicle. With a keyfob in our possession, we need to get to the center of the back of the vehicle, within a few feet of the vehicle. That is when the vehicle will sense the fob, give several beeps in recognition, and open the tailgate.

However, the tailgate does not open as we approach. In fact, if we walk past the rear of the vehicle, the sensors pick up that we are moving, assume we don’t want the tailgate to open, and it will remain closed. Which at least to me, makes more sense than the tailgate always opening as we walk up to the vehicle, since many/most times, we may very well not want it open.

If I find the thread containing the video, I will post a link here.

Good luck.

Hi gang. Here is the link to the Lincoln video in the thread I mentioned above:

It is contained in post #3, by “APL Rep”. On a related note, Lincoln refers to the feature as “Open on Approach”.

Hope this helps and good luck. 🍻

I don't know. I find it easier to just bitch about how things don't work instead of trying to understand the potential operator error involved lol.

Hey, Lincoln? You hear that? You need to stop including premium features in your premium vehicles! We want content on par with a 1996 Toyota Corolla.

I personally refuse to buy a Navigator until it is offered with crank windows, rubber floors, steel wheels, and unpainted gray bumpers, because I want to spend six figures on a vehicle and have absolutely nothing to show for it!!

HEY LINCOLN!!! You need to make sure the high tech features you put in your premium vehicles FUNCTION AND can be repaired when they fail. Until then I like hand crank windows etc, etc, etc.
