Hey Google - Commands for Nautilus Controls

I tried "Show messages" today and instead of bringing up the messages screen which is what I wanted, it read me my last message, which is quite nice.

So "Play messages" or "Show messages" appear to do the same thing which is to play your messages. In my case it read the last message. I'm hoping it will read thru all unread messages.

Fun fact. My best friend was up last weekend and he asked if Google would automatically search for anything non-vehicle related such as "What is the population of Columbus, Ohio?" We have confirmed that searches like that work just as they would with your computer or phone.

Hi Red Honcho. A somewhat related fun fact:
While my 2018 MKZ only has SYNC 3, I can do the same thing using CarPlay/“Hey Siri”, when my phone is plugged in.

Just a fun fact for those of us who are SYNC 3 limited/tech backwards. 😱

Good luck. 🍻

Fun fact. My old 1990 Nissan Pathfinder, which just had a regular AM/FM radio, could do the same thing when I said "Hey, Susan". Of course, Susan had to be sitting in the seat next to me.

Since there is not a dedicated audio source button, (even though plenty of space on the right steering buttons), I have tried to use voice commands to switch from FM radio the the USB drive. I have tried many times with various commands and can't do it. I usually get "playing Joe Blow's USB channel on YouTube music" or some such. Does anyone know a command that works?

There is a dedicated audio source button. It is on the home screen in the audio square. Small icon I believe upper left corner. press the touch screen and the options are displayed.

Thanks, Linc24. I am aware of that and use it, but since I generally don't stay on the home screen, it is not there for me. I would love a hard button for source. Or at least a few easy steering buttons. I don't like having to switch center screens, then poke a little drop down button, then switch the center screen back... That's three poking actions on a center screen just to change my music.

You can access it by voice Hey Google.

FYI - his original post was asking how to do that for a USB source.

Say "Media Player" and it will go to it..
You can also do the various request for specific songs, etc. "Play song Stairway to Heaven on Media Player" or "Play artist The Rolling Stones on Media Player" . You don't need "...on Media Plyer" if media player has already been selected.

Let us know how it works for you. My vehicle has an issue where it fails to complete even though it acknowledges it understands and attempts to do so.

Sharbotcom: Alas, I tried all three of your suggestions, none of them worked. I started with FM radio, and saying "Media Player" would bring the FM Radio to the center screen. When I said "Play song Stairway to Heaven on Media Player" it switched from FM Radio to some version of Stairway to Heaven on YouTube. Likewise when I tried the "Play artist The Rolling Stones on Media Player". (I happen to have both Stairway to Heaven and the Stones on my USB.) I did perhaps notice what you said - it appears to try to go to the Media Player, but then reverts to FM Radio. Thanks for the suggestion - I appreciate your response.

In my case, I get the "Sure, playing Stairway to Heaven on Media Play" response, which tells me it knows what it is doing. But, failure was obviously an option in this case.

Stairway?

Had to.

I noticed that if the radio is OFF, then saying "Media Player" will bring up the USB drive. But when the radio is on, the radio will always come in place. I tried saying "Turn Radio Off", but that only mutes the radio, not turn it off.

When I said "media player", it just switched to siriusxm as if it was bringing up the media screen to select source.

I wish "hey Google" would allow you to change the Drive Mode. I usually have my drive mode on "normal". Someimes I like to change to "Excite" drive mode when getting on the epressway etc. Very cumbersome do it with the button and then have to find it on the touch screen. To get back to "normal" drive mode, you have to scroll sideways to get back to normal. Not easy (probably should not do it) while driving! Hopefully Lincoln is listening.

To get back to "normal" drive mode, you have to scroll sideways to get back to normal.
You can touch and hold a drive mode button and drag it to a new position on the screen.

I'm not looking at my screen right now, but I think I dragged "Economy" over to the far left since I typically only use "Normal," "Excite" or "Slippery" (in the winter).

So when I'm in "Excite" mode and go back to the mode screen then "Normal," "Excite," "Slippery" and maybe "Deep" are visible, and I'd need to scroll to get to "Economy" which I rarely use.

It's easy to rearrange them until you find what works best for you.
