Dashcam

Has anyone hard-wired their dashcam or radar detector into a power source inside the overhead compartment? I did it on both the '22 and '23 Corsairs, but now looking at doing it on '24 Nautilus.

I bought a dashcam that has a y-cable that steals power from the rain sensor power plug. However, this cable only provides accessory power. To get full-time power for parking mode, you still have to go under the dash for this kit. (I'm still going to try and find battery power somewhere up there. Let me know if you do.)

Thanks. That is definitely a viable option. I'm also going to see if I can find the power supply for the sunroof to tap into. The circuit for the sunroof should have a higher capacity fuse and therefor capable of handling the extra draw (very little extra) without compromising the circuit.

@swindler do you mind if ask you where you got your adapter? I'd still like to find the sunroof power but your solution will work fine for me in mean time.

That cable shown in the circle for post #22 was part of the in-box install kit for the dashcam. The dashcam was specifically for the 2024 Nautilus and sold by the company Mangoal. Here's a link to the unit.

Lincoln Nautilus Gen2 CDX707 2024 Dash Cam

I don't believe they sell that part individually, but maybe you could contact them and say you bought one on Amazon and you need a replacement.

@swindler thanks for the info.

FitcamX- super easy done in 10, works great and near invisible
After 6 months, how have you liked this dash cam? I was looking at it and another that blends in the same way. Trying to decide which one. Did you get yours with the rear camera? How do you like the quality? Do they have an app you use? Have you checked that app's privacy "Data linked to you" section in the App Store to see what they are tracking of your information?

I got hold of the relevant pages of the 24 Nautilus shop manual that has the instructions for removing the rearview mirror assembly cover. (I'll be looking to tap into the sunroof power source for my dashcam). The pages I have contain instruction steps 4, 5 and 6. What I find very interesting is item 7 under step 6: "If equipped. Disconnect the USB high mounted charge port electrical connector." This tells me, Ford has/had intended on putting a USB port up there. Unfortunately, my car is at the dealer until sometime next week and I won't be able to check it out until sometime after that. If anybody wants to take a look at theirs, please let us know. It would be absolutely awesome if there is a USB port up there, or at least a powered connector wired for it. The relevant pages are attached.

Another happy Fitcam X user. Easy to install. Works great. No issues.

Fred,

did Best Buy hide the wires? did you have them tap into the OBD2 port?

thanks
Bill
Not sure. I installed my own with the obd2 wire. Just providing different pricing for options.

Checking in for current recommendations on a dashcam set for a '25 Nautilus hybrid.

Desired attributes:
  1. 4K front, 2K rear
  2. BestBuy installable (and preferably purchasable, simpler to have them handle it all)
  3. Ideally something that could be successfully BB-installed to have dashcam parking monitor available, without killing the hybrid battery (if this can't be done cleanly by BB, that's okay, it's the stretch goal)

Thanks!

I bought the Vinfo A229 plus on Amazon. It is 2k front and 2k rear, works great. Viofo does have a 4k model. Best Buy installed it and tapped into the OBD2 port so the parking feature work well. BB charged $99, the dealer wanted $450. I guess the dealer really didn't want to do it. Using the OBD2 port requires a separate adaptor, also on Amazon

While BB may be able to fumble their way through the install, the most important aspect of these installs is to not impede the airbags with wires crossing over them. And considering that the Nautilus is a fairly new model, the layout of the safety features is not that well known.

So be sure to ask the right questions so that in case of an accident, you don’t have flying debris due to the camera cords being yanked out or worse, an airbag that fails to deploy.

Hi Fred, did you have to remove the trim on the A pillar as well as the panel above the 48” display? I have been wanting to do the fuse/odb wiring but have been afraid to do that for fear of not getting the panel back on.

I did need to remove the A pillar trim. It took awhile and getting it back in was the tricky part. Once the trim is removed you can slide the wires down to the fuse box.

Was simple pry tools all you used? I decided to just hide the wires under the A pillar and run it down the left side of the dash down to the fuse box but that exposed around 6 inches of wire to the left of my screen. Kind of an eye sore
