My Lincoln
2107 Lincoln Continental Reserve
I inherited this highly optioned Lincoln. It has everything except the rear seat package. I see that it has the LED headlights, and they seem to have cornering ability when I turn the steering wheel in my driveway. I don't seem to notice this when out on the road at night though. How to I best check to see that they are actually in operation? Thanks.

Hi SullyJ. Try this: Park your Continental so the headlights are shining on the garage door (if possible).
Start your vehicle at night while simultaneously watching the headlights/garage door.

The headlights should do a single left to right and back to center dance. If they do that, they are working.

They actually should not move when turning the steering wheel while the vehicke is parked, since they only activate above a certain speed, which I forget at the moment.

This information, with more detail, is also contained in the Owners Manual.

Keep in mind the sweep while driving is not glaringly obvious. And it lags slightly behind the steering inputs. So it can be difficult to notice if not concentrating on it.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Sully J, You are correct on the cornering lights with the Led option, they only come on below 20mph but
stay on till you park or speed up. Activated by turn signal or position of steering wheel. Called sidewalk lighting by Lincoln.

The Continental doesn't have the moving lights like the MKZ. It does have the corning lights as mentioned above. I know this because I had both an MKZ fully loaded and the Continental at the same time. I was disappointed that they didn't operate like the MKZ. Also the moonroof doesn't work on the Global closing or opening with the Fob.

Hi dmorneau. You do not mention what model year and trim level (nor option packages) your Continental was/is. I am strictly discussing the 2017 Continental Reserve with the Premium LED headlamp option, (which is what the OP is asking about).

So I double checked the 2017 Lincoln Continental Dealer Order Guide (the last word on trim levels, features, options, option packages etc.). and here is what was available:

Concerning the moonroof not being part of the Global Opening feature: You are 100% correct. I incorrectly assumed that feature was available on the Continental, since it was available on the MKZ. My mistake.

Concerning the Premium LED headlamps on the 2017 Continental: When equipped with the Premium LED headlamps, there is a left-right-center sweep system check on startup.
However, the Premium LED headlamps were not available on the Premier and Select trim levels. They were optional on the 2017 Continental Reserve. And when equipped with the Premium LED headlamps, they did/do have the initial startup check of a left-right-back to center checkup sweep.

If you had/have a 2017 Continental Premier or Select, the LED headlamps were not available and therefore there would be no left/right/center sweep of the headlights.
If you had/have a 2017 Continental Reserve, it either was not equipped with the Luxury Package/Premium LED headlamps, or they were/are not operating correctly.

Hopefully that clears up any confusion.

Good luck.

I have 2017 Reserve loaded with all the options except the 20” wheel. Including the rear seat option. Mine doesn’t sweep back to central at start up. My MKZ did this.

Hi dmorneau. The Premium LED headlamps were part of the 2017 Continental Reserve Luxury Package, which consisted of:
- Premium LED Headlamps
- Revel® Ultima with 19 Speakers
- Single-CD player

Did you have the Revel Ultima 19 speaker audio system and Single CD player? If you did, then the Premium LED Headlamps on your 2017 Continental were not operating correctly.
If you did not have the Revel Ultima and Single-CD player, then your 2017 Continental was not equipped with the Luxury Package/Premium LED headlamps.
The 20" wheels and "rear seat option" had nothing to do with the Premium LED Headlamp feature.

This information is directly from Lincoln itself and can be verified by checking the 2017 Lincoln Continental Order Guide and Owners Manual.

On a personal experience side note: I also drove those model year Continentals (2017-2020), and those equipped with the Premium LED headlamps did perform the left-right-center startup check. Same as my 2018 MKZ.

Good luck.

Hi dmorneau. I believe you. However, then the Premium LED Headlamp feature on your 2017 Continental was not operating correctly.

You can verify this information via the 2017 Continental Dealer Order Guide and your 2017 Continental Owners Manual.

Good luck.
