Hi gang. After a long dry period, there is now an update available for SYNC 3.0.

This new version is "SYNC v3.0.23219". The previous latest version was "SYNC v3.0.20204". Unfortunately, I am not aware of what it contains, updates etc.

I have not downloaded/installed it yet. I will download it tomorrow and install it on my next long drive.

Keep in mind, this is an update to SYNC 3.0 equipped vehicles. It is not compatible with SYNC 3.4 equipped vehicles.

EDIT- While I am posting this information in the MKZ sub-forum, this SYNC 3.0 update is applicable to all SYNC 3.0 equipped Lincolns. Unfortunately, we do not have a SYNC specific or similar sub-forum.

Good luck. 🍻

I’ll be anxious to find out how it goes. Keep us posted.

Thanks for letting us know bbf - I tried to unsuccessfully update over Wi-Fi - it never seems to work over Wi-Fi for me lol, so I guess I’ll do the usb update today, hopefully

H JCB. You are very welcome! 🤗

Yes, for most owners, WiFi updates with SYNC 3.0 have been problematic at best.
I’ve performed all my available updates (maybe 4-5?) via USB over the ~6 years I’ve had my MKZ.

Over this 6 years, I’ve only had 1 update begin with WiFi, despite placing a WiFi range extender in my house close to the driveway and a strong signal. And that 1 was taking so long to download that I finally performed it via USB.

WiFi downloads with SYNC 3.4 have been a bit better for some owners with SYNC 3.4, but still far from ideal.

Wi-Fi updates with SYNC 4 are far better. Plus SYNC 4 has available OTA updating.
And I’m assuming the new Google based system will be even more efficient with OTA and WiFi updating.

I hoping to have a chance to take a nice drive this weekend to install the update, and will post back with my results.

Good luck! 🍻

Well, I attempted to update the sync system after logging into my account - extracted zip file like I have in the past, with the 2 files at root level of the usb and the syncmyride folder at root level also - tried twice and each time I got the message that installation failed almost immediately - be curious to see if anyone else encounters this issue also before I call support

Hi JCB. Sorry to hear you had issues

Was just coming on to let those interested know that I had a chance to install the update this afternoon.

It went very smoothly. Took less than 20 minutes. If I recall correctly, the instructions stated it could take up to 40 minutes.

In past updates, I would receive several false/premature “Your update is complete” messages. So I’ve learned to wait at least 10 minutes after any messages appear, in order to ensure the update does not restart/continue. However, this time the first “Update complete” message was the last. In this case, I kept driving to my destination...over 1 hour total, and received no more messages.

So when I got home I removed the USB, turned off the car, opened and closed the door, and when I checked my installed SYNC version, it had updated to “SYNC v3.0.23219”.

Back to your issue, JCB: The instructions can be confusing. For SYNC 3, we need to format the USB to exfat (not fat32). Did you format to exfat?
And as I’m sure you know, the instructions state to download the update to our computer first (not the USB drive). Then unzip the file. Then transfer the unzipped files to the USB etc.

Concerning any noticeable changes to my system after the update was completed? I did not drive long enough after the update was completed to notice. I can only say my system was still working. 😂
The update most likely is only bug fixes and stability updates for various reasons (i.e. new iOS and Android versions etc.), not new features. Again, just my opinion/guess.

EDIT- Forgot to add:
Previously…there had been an XML file added to the USB after we updated, which we then needed to upload to the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website, in order to inform the Lincoln system we had updated.
Present day: While I did not see the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website mention this change (it is possible I missed it), the added file is now a "Microsoft Edge HTML Document". It is located in the "SyncMyRide" folder. When I proceeded to upload that file to the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website, in the same manner as the old XML file procedure, the system accepted it and updated my SYNC version to SYNC v3.0.23219.

If anything I wrote above is confusing, feel free to ask for clarification.

I’m sure others will have more advice and suggestions, so keep us updated and good luck. 🍻

Thanks bbf - the answer is yes to your question regarding exFat - and I did download to the computer and extract the files and folder, then copy to usb - interesting note on the xml file, as I had not remembered that, so thank you

I am going to try again today - if yours went fine, it HAS to be something I’m doing wrong

Take care

Hi JCB. You’re very welcome. 🤗
I hope it is successful this time. Good luck and let us know how it goes. 🍻

A few days ago I downloaded the file, extracted it to a USB drive, and took a ride. It installed in about 20 minutes, as others mentioned earlier that was quicker than past updates. It also did not restart or do anything further. I uploaded the file to Lincoln to confirm the update, and as far as I can see nothing new in terms of features or functions. It all went smoothly. I have the map subscription so later this month the new one comes out and I'll install that also. All in all, I would recommend doing this Sync update, it has not caused any issues and I'd assume Lincoln had a reason for releasing it. I did this update on my 2018 MKZ Black Label Hybrid.

Since you’ve both had success, I couldn’t figure out why mine wouldn’t work, UNTIL I noticed that the update site said USB drive size 16-32 GB - all along I was trying with the 64GB drive I used for my music

Purchased a 32GB a drive and voila, update worked -

Hope my stupidity helps anyone that may encounter an issue using a drive larger than 32 GB

Take care

Hi JCB. Don’t worry… We all have those moments. 😂

Happy to hear it finally worked out. Good luck. 🍻

I updated my MKX yesterday. It went quickly and the update was confirmed on the vehicle screen “build 23219”. The problem is that I can’t report it to Lincoln. I’m using a Windows PC. The instructions are to insert the USB drive, choose the HTML file, ( OK so far) and click “select file”. I can’t find “select file”.

Hi C Krohn. Are you on the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website? If I remember correctly, there is first a button stating something to the effect of “Report updates”. Then there will be a “Select file” button.

I may be a little off on the exact language, but there were buttons there when I updated last week.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks! I think I got it. I hadn’t scrolled down far enough to see “browse for log file”.
I wish the website would give some indication that it’s working. I’ll check tomorrow to see if it worked.

Oh jeez - is it necessary to report? Asking because I just downloaded from the update site and installed - never reported it, so can I go back and do it after the fact?

Thank you

Hi JCB. Yes, you can still report. As long as you did not erase/overwrite/reformat the USB you used.
No problems will occur if you don’t report, other than the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website will still show the update available until you do.

How to report a successful update is explained in posts #6, #12, and #15.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks man as always - done as instructed!

Re: post 15.

It took a few days but the update showed up on the Lincoln owner website.

I believe I need an update to my Sync 3, but the Lincoln website says mine is already up to date. My Sync says it is Version 3.0 Build 17302_Product...
