My 2023 Navigator intermittently won't start.

I hit the start button and the two green blinker lights on the display blink a few times. I can start the SUV with the app but can't get it into gear or have any buttons work.

So far this has happened three times in two weeks.

The only way for me to get the SUV to start is to disconnect and reconnect the battery. System resets and no issue.

It's like the SUV gets stuck in safe mode.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi bmwcrocop. The underlying issue causing this problem needs to be properly diagnosed. Self-help fixes will most likely be a temporary band-aid, often lasting only long enough for the warranty to expire.

In my opinion, the best way to have this addressed would be to call Lincoln Roadside Service next time this happens. In this way the issue can be officially recorded.
Avoiding a battery disconnect and having it towed to the Dealership at that point (while it won’t start) would be the best course of action.

I understand this may not be convenient (work, personal commitments etc), so do what you feel is best for you.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

It might be that the battery is not fully charged or not completely charged. Or at near the end of its service life.
Just a guess. A battery that is less than fully charged does some weird things with electronics.

Getting the battery tested would be a step to eliminate that as a factor.

Good call; I did a maintenance visit at the dealership a few weeks back and it wasn't an issue at this point.

I was looking for guidance to share with the ealership as its still under warranty. I am worried since it is intermittent that it won't be happening at the dealership.

I do like the roadside assistance part --- just don't want to pay for the visit. lol

I'll keep everyone posted.

Dealership techs have a lot more training and experience than almost all of us here.
In addition, they have access to things we do not.

If an intermitted problem was reported under warranty and a repair order was executed, subsequently the concern is not found. You are still under warranty for a later repair if the exact problem no longer is intermittent. Under the warranty your job is to report the problem to the dealership and make the vehicle available to the dealership for repair. I believe you have done that. Repeat repairs that occur within a reasonable amount of time are the responsibility of the dealership.

And I know what you are thinking, what is reasonable?
From months to a year would be reasonable.
Multiple years not so much.

Hi bmwcrocop. Yes, I do understand what you were asking for. And other members will certainly jump in to assist with their experiences.

In the meantime, in addition to Action’s good information above: Lincoln Complementary Roadside Assistance is free while within Warranty, which your 2023 hopefully still is. And a tow to the Dealership would also be free.

And since you state this issue is intermittent, calling for Roadside Assistance when it occurs would be the perfect solution, since Roadside Assistance would verify that the vehicle will not start etc.
And as previously mentioned…individual circumstances may make it inconvenient to wait for Roadside Service, have it towed etc.
However, it can sometimes be the best solution to having an intermittent issue recognized. So do what is best for your situation.

Hopefully that is more understandable.

Keep us updated and good luck. 🍻

Did you ever find out what the underlying issue was or get a fix? I have same exact experience/problem
