Side Mirror Tilt in Reverse

Hi Silverskates. Blind Internet diagnosis is a very difficult, so I will make this suggestion (only thoughts on possible scenarios): The rain sensing sensitivity is adjustable. By using the dial on the wiper stalk, you an adjust that rain sensitivity. And you may need to do this at higher speeds.
So try adjusting the sensitivity, if you have not already done so.

Also, we need to keep in mind that the frequency of wiping is solely determined by a sensor located under the rear view mirror. So if there is rain/moisture in front of the sensor, it will wipe, even if the rest of the windshield may seem to be relatively rain free.

As an example: Let's say a freak/large rain drop hits right dead center in front of that sensor, but not much rain is hitting the rest of the windshield, the sensor will set off a wipe, while we may not see much rain on the windshield in front of us.
And vice-a-versa...There could be rain on the rest of the windshield, but not much in front of the sensor for some god-forsaken reason. ;)

If the above thoughts don't seem to apply to your vehicle, here is a suggestion: See if you can duplicate the issue at home using a hose and spray nozzle. If you can, then perform the same test at the Dealership, in order to demonstrate to them that your wipers are not "working as designed". They certainly must have a hose there. And bring your spray nozzle from home, so you can duplicate the test as closely as possible.

Again, these are all just blind Internet thoughts and suggestions.

EDIT- Oh...and you may get more replies relating to your wiper issue if you begin a new thread with a more relatable title than the OP's "Side Mirror Tilt in Reverse". Maybe "Rain sensing wiper issue"?

I am sure others will have more advice and suggestions, so keep us updated and good luck. 🍻
Thx for your help, info & suggestions! I thought you had to have the dial on the top position of the intermittent wiper setting in order for auto sense wipe to work (as well as auto rain sense turned on under vehicle settings). Are you saying as long as I have vehicle rain sense wipe turned on, it will auto wipe regardless of what wiper settings I’m using?

Hi Silverskates. The Owners Manual gives a better/fuller explanation, but I'll give it a shot: The short answer is...No...there is more to it.

The longer answer is:
-First, "Rain Sensing" wipers must be turned on in the vehicle settings. That enables the Rain Sensing feature, and disables the normal "intermittent wiper setting". Sounds like you already did that.
- Then, to actually turn on the wipers, you need to click the wiper stalk up one position (from off), for Rain Sensing to be on. That would be one click up from off, to what would normally be the "Intermittent wipers" setting, if "Rain Sensing" was turned off in the vehicle settings. Sounds like you already did that too.
- Finally, when the stalk is set one click up to the Rain Sensing/Intermittent position, you can control the Rain Sensing and wipe intensity/sensitivity by rotating the dial. Least sensitive would be turned back towards the driver. Full sensitivity would be rotated forward away from the driver.

So if I understand your scenario correctly, you had the rain sensitive wipers enabled in settings, turned on with the stalk up one position from off, but dialed forward to full sensitivity, which may explain their crazy behavior.

My advice, turn the dial back to a lower or preferably the minimum sensitivity, and adjust from there to see if it cures your issues.

And again, this is a blind Internet diagnosis, so it is also possible there is an issue with them. But start with dialing them back to minimum sensitivity and let us know how things work out.

Keep us updated and good luck. 🍻

Since we've strayed away from the thread topic, I have not had issues with the rain sensing wipers although a couple of times they seemed to be a little late coming ON for my liking. I have noticed, however, that sometimes they will do a wipe on a nice clear sunny day or when I drive into the garage. This has been one constant on the last 5 vehicles I've had.

I read the manual & watched some videos but your explanation is much clearer 👏 When I use the intermittent wiper on any position other than the top one, the wipers appear to work fine so I will lower the sensitivity & see if the prob is resolved. Really apprec your help!

Hi Black Label. Thank you.
Yes, I like nice things. I’ve had some niggly things with the Aviator but it’s a lovely machine. I will say, though, that the dealerships for Lincoln (here in Ontario) don’t quite get it that they have a luxury brand. They have a lot to learn from Porsche and MB.
Same in the states when it comes to service.

You can't just lump all dealers into the same bracket. Mine is excellent.

Such a nice vehicle, but the engineers obviously don't care about simple things like this. Another thing that bugs me is that the front camera doesn't automatically turn on when you put it in drive. All other high end vehicles I've owned have this feature and it automatically turns off at speeds above 6 kmph.

Maybe your tilt mirrors’ setting is turned off? I turned mine off. Front camera… I press the button for the front camera when pulling into a parking spot so I can pull up far enough w/o hitting anything.

The 2025's front camera will activate under certain conditions like pulling into my garage or approaching a curb. I have never needed it to turn ON when putting the vehicle in Drive. I have never had a vehicle with auto-tilt mirrors but have used those 2" convex stick-on mirror forever. You can see the rear wheels with them if properly placed and not lose the full view of the main mirror.

I have a 21 black label. Think there is some option for mirrors when in reverse in the vehicle menu. So, settings, vehicle, mirrors.
