- 2023 Aviator Reserve
So this has been discussed at length in the other Ford forums. Evidently Ford wised up to everyone disabling the auto start/Stop feature with forscan and has made it more difficult. When I purchased my 2023 last year I installed a start/stop eliminator which tricks the computer into thinking you are trying to turn the wheel at which it never allows the engine to shut off. Takes about 15 min to install on wire harness in the steering column2023 Lincoln Aviator Reserve.
I turned off auto start/stop via FORscan and it works perfectly. But now it is triggering a Charging System Service Soon error on each startup. Is there another setting I need to change? Did I miss something?
Perfect. By what means did you disable it without any residual errors? FORscan? Autostop eliminator? Other?Per my profile you can see I have a 2022 reserve. I disabled mine quite some time ago and have had no residual effects.
Understand the concern, however I don't think this is the same as flashing the ECM. No mapping and modification to engine or transmission controls has been made. I would make the argument that I have chosen to enable their software of that single, lone feature to do the same task as me selecting it myself on the dash each time I start the car (user enabled and acceptable).I also installed the patch cord in the steering wheel column to eliminate the start/stop feature. Works great!
I'm not familiar with using Forscan though I did research it. Like Peter, I worry about messing with any programming of the ECM during the warranty period as it could be used to void a warranty issue later. Back in 2010, Ford could determine how many times the ECM was flashed and at the mileage it was last flashed. So if you have flashed the ECM Ford can tell that it wasn't flashed during a visit to a Ford/Lincoln service dept.
I followed your directions to a “T”. The change worked perfectly and after the first errors I have not had any errors to report.FORSCAN. Below are my notes when I made the change:
AM of 11/7/22
Desired: PSCM 730-03-01 xxxx xxxx 00--
Field before change read
730-03-01 xxxx xxxx 013A
After change read
730-03-01 xxxx xxxx 003A
commanded to save, got a checksum error message and accepted that as OK
After restart, the line read:
730-03-01 xxxx xxxx 0039
perhaps the change it made to the 9 was a checksum correction
After restart and test, when backing out of the garage, got a
WARNING: REVERSE BRAKE ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE - SEE MANUAL
Tested the car, appeared to be a success.
Put in the garage, turned off, then back on and started to back out
The REVERSE BRAKE ASSIST WARNING was no longer there. Checked the features
options, it appeared fine.
