I recently purchased a CPO 2021 Reserve. It is under the original factory B to B for another year. What is the consensus on aftermarket vs Ford extended warranty plans? For factory plans, does pricing vary from dealer to dealer or is it pretty much a set price regardless of who you buy from? For aftermarket plans, is one considered best? Cost?

I prefer the Ford ESP Premium plan and I buy mine from Lombard Ford. It is the same thing that your Lincoln dealer offers but at a much more reasonable price. When I bought my 2024 Nautilus the dealer wanted $4800 for the full ESP package with all the bells and whistles and $100 deductible. I was able to get the Premium Ford ESP plan from Lombard Ford for $1600 including the lighting and replacement fob options. I bought the 100K mile $200 deductible version which most dealers won’t even tell you exists. These show up in the Oasis system just like if you bought it from your selling dealer. They are the same and I have never had an issue getting any Ford or Lincoln dealer to accept it.

There are other dealers that sell online as well.

I don't have extended yet since I just got my CPO car with 3 years left. But I researched some before my purchase. Ziegler is very good and web site is flexible, but for absolute lowest prices, I found grangerfordextendedwarranty.com is best. Their web site is not as flexible but has improved. For example, last I checked it does not have an adjusted price if car is a current CPO. But they will quote you. I got a quote by contacting them directly on 9 year /100k warranty (CPO + 3) from them directly at around $1000, and 9 year/125k at around $1450. (total years/miles from in service). The CPO makes the added warranty cheaper by around $1000 - $1200 I found. Ziegler had a "payinfull" discount code of $275 and is a good option too.

Be aware that for CPO cars still under warranty, you can extend to 11 years total (wow) at a reasonable price. However, above 100k miles total prices go up quite fast. Toward end of CPO I will consider where I am.

My Cadillac is 8.5 years old/100k miles, had just $200 in repairs. On the other hand. my Lexus LS430 had cpo + 3 (10 from new) and great as the car remains, it had plenty of covered issues: mirror, cruise computer, air strut, etc. 0 deductible was nice.

1 more thing: every time you go to a dealer they will likely warn you of some astronomical diagnostic fee ($225 recently, I guess 1 hour of labor) that you must agree before they even start the diagnosis. It is waived if repair is confirmed/warrantable. So it feels like a crapshoot, but most genuine issues are covered. My brand new to me CPO had a purge valve go bad after 2 weeks, so 0 cost (emissions warranty, not CPO) but it's a slight gamble until they diagnose it.

Hi demark1. I forgot all about Granger. You are correct, their prices are also very good.

Zeigler and Flood Ford were always my top 2 recommendations. However, while helping my sister purchase a new Corsair earlier this year, we discovered that Lincoln ESP pricing at Granger Ford is also highly competitive, and in some cases even better than Zeigler and Flood Ford.

I have a 24 and keep my vehicles a long time and when the base warranty is getting close to ending, if I keep the vehicle, I will likely get the extended warranty. The 24 is complex and looks like it would cost $1K to fix anything (something as simple as a power seat) so guess I would get close to breaking even after 2 or 3 repairs.. The drivetrain is new and all tech is new. When I looked at the plans, you can get different levels of what is covered.

I did the math on the maintenance plan and seemed I could do just as well paying the dealer. They essentially wanted $188 per visit.

I believe they should include a couple years of maintenance in the price.

I just got an email today from Lombard Ford stating a price increase is coming. I think I will buy mine before then. I love the car and like having peace of mind.

Keep in mind if you reside in Florida, these online options are not allowed by state law. The state considers extended warranties to be insurance and thus must be purchased within the state.

No complaints with Zeigler. Have the ESP Premium on and used it on my F150, and when the time comes, I'll check them and Flood and others that have popped up out. Way cheaper than purchasing at delivery at the dealership. That's a big markup item for them. Can't compete with the online dealers. It's all about volume.

… my experience has been that the dealer I am purchasing my new car from will match the on-line ESP price one way or another (Ford dealer beat the price and Lincoln dealer increased my trade-ins value by on-line price if ESP).

Hi 04LTC. As LHB mentioned, it is always best for buyers to do our homework and get the best prices available from all sources (i .e. the Lincoln Dealership where we are purchasing the vehicle, all other local Lincoln/Ford Dealerships, online sellers etc.).

Some Dealerships will negotiate a bit. However, In my experience, my purchasing Dealership and all other local Lincoln/Ford Dealerships would not meet/beat the Zeigler, Granger, Flood Ford ESP prices.

It also depends on who we get the online price from. There are many online sellers who do not offer the deep discount pricing which Zeigler, Granger and Flood do. So of course, your purchasing Dealer may meet/beat those higher online prices.
So again, we all need to perform our own due diligence if we want the best price.

But as LHB stated, it never hurts to ask.

EDIT- I would most certainly recommend the top tier, PremiumCare plan. It is the only plan which covers most of the complicated vehicle electronics/electrical systems, computers, audio system, climate control, SYNC etc. Those are the systems which are often more likely to have expensive issues during long term ownership, after the New Vehicle Warranty has expired.

In the example of a LincolnProtect ESP, it would include the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper warranty, plus 6 years/50,000 miles of LincolnProtect ESP. For a total coverage of 10 years/100,000 miles.

I want to keep it for at least 10 years but the early issues had me worried. I would get top tier.

Regarding advantages to purchasing early, there are two slight ones:
1- There is an additional $100 service charge assessed if the plan is purchased after 1 year in-service.
2- Plan pricing only increases, not decreases, over time due to inflation etc. So the same plan will cost more in 1-2-3- years. As you are aware of with the coming increases.

Of course, the advantage to waiting is…If we decide to sell in the first 4 years, we have not spent money on a plan we didn’t need.

I believe you only get the best pricing if you take out the extended warranty within the first 12 months. At least that is what I recall from when I bought mine in July. I got and 8yr/100K miles with a $200 deductible with lightning and key fob option for right at $1600 at Lombard. I didn’t check Granger and Ziegler though so they might be cheaper…
