I noticed if i open a door or tailgate to do something quick then close (still unlocked), the keypad stays illuminated for a longer than expected time. The approach lights go out fairly quickly. It takes several minutes. I wonder why. It is an unlock reminder.

On the keypad you also have the lock button as well as the numbers. This added time illumination is so you can identify the lock button since you maybe unloading vehicle before you lock up.

Yes. It’s likely because they did away with a physical lock button.

In the example, I cited the lock button is NOT visible - just the unlock. I should have mentioned that. If I want to lock the it I have to use the fob or open door and press the lock button.

I will post a image later today with detailed scenario.

The icon on the Keypad is the lock button. The unlock button is on the inside of the door handle. You can also lock the doors via the Keypad by pressing the 7,8 and the 9,0 button at the same time. No need to use the key fob you can leave it in your pockect. For clarification please see your owners manual page 88.

Got it. For some reason in my mind, I was to press the unlock symbol.

You could! Although mine seems to be a bit fussy, it results in me aggressively poking my door panel numerous times until it actually locks. :ROFLMAO:

Ditto.... Crazy intitial UI software on this car. I have found if you press and hold your whole finger tip, for 2-3 seconds, it works the first time.

One thing to remember is that the door has to sense your keyfob (or phone) for the keypad lock button to work. The OM says 3 ft. My wife always makes sure her purse is facing the door when locking or it will be inconsistent.

The execution is far from perfect, but it's good enough for me to never bother carrying the keyfob any longer unless I'm planning to valet the car.

I once was playing with it and it did lock so maybe in the process i touched the right sequence and it locked
.

Here is one that I did not know: To release the trunk, enter the factory-set code or your personal code, then press 5•6 within five seconds.

I’ll never remember that 😀

I just tried one today and I made an error as there does not seem to be a lock button on the drivers door just a lock unlock icon. that being said I just press the 78 90 button on the keypad to lock the doors. On the passenger side door the icon on the black panel is the lock button and does work. You do not need the key fob available to use the keypad just the code. I highly suggest you make a personal code rather than use the factory code. I f some learns your personal code you can just change however if someone learns the factory code it cannot be changed. BCM module replacement would be the only way in that senario. To store new personal code just enter facory code followed by the 1,2 button then your new 5 digit personal code.

Yes, absolutely right. On the passenger side, you need either the keyfob within 3 ft or you can use a personal/factory code. You can also just use an inside lock button.

You can store up to five personal codes. I believe you're intended to press one of the five buttons (1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-0) after the sequence above to store the personal code into one of five slots. It may be that if you don't enter a slot, it defaults to 1-2, IDK.

You can also create the personal codes using the console display. You'll still need the factory code.

Thanks for confirming I was not imagining the lock button ...it was on the passenger side. At the time, I was organizing the contents of the glove box.

I've also noticed that on my 2023 Aviator. Not concerned about it.
