Navi Battery Replacement

Replaced the battery in my CPO 2020 Navi b/c I kept getting low power / sleep mode warning in the app and we are about to go on an early spring road trip. Also, no idea how old the battery was since I couldn't find any date codes on it. Bought a Costco Interstate AGM for $100 less than FoMoCo with 50 more CCA's than OEM. Easy install.

The question, I have read the ODB2 system needs to have a parameter reset that lets the charging system know a new battery has been installed, I also read that this can be accomplished by pressing the start button with your foot OFF the brake, wait until you see the battery light "on," then flash the brights 5x and then press the brake 5x, the battery light will flash after a few moments and then go out. This procedure resets the ODB2.

Can anyone confirm this is true or do I need to go to my mechanic and get him to reset it with a code reader?

Changed the battery in my 20 because it will sit at the airport for a while soon. No codes, nothing reset and no issues.

If you google "ford BMS reset" there is lots of "information" about procedures related to battery replacement and charging / jumpstarting. THIS video was very informative about how to properly charge / jump a Ford with BMS. Also, a number of sources say you need to "reset" the BMS after the change. I was wondering if anyone had an "official" FORD SOP related to battery replacement.

I looked on all data and all it referred to was if you charged a battery with a BMS you needed to take of the neg and positive terminals and then put back on so it would relearn the state of charge.

Not much help or info.

Hi CEB. Yes, leaving the car locked and completely untouched for 8+ hours also accomplishes a BMS reset.

By untouched, that means locked, do not approach it with a fob or PAAK on our person (it would *wake up* the car). Do not open or use the LincolnWay app (it would *wake up* the car), etc. etc.

The basics of this information is also explained in the battery section of the Owners Manual. Or at least used to be in the previous few years.
