My Lincoln
2021 Lincoln Nautilus
Hi all. Since you all were helpful last time, thought I'd post. So my wife and I flew out to Cali for a certified pre owned 2021 nautilus 202a with 11k miles. Great price! Drove it back to Colorado. I noticed a few things that unfortunately didn't notice while test driving:1) horrible wind noise definitely from the windshield and maybe elsewhere. 2) really bad road noise also. (I have test driven two other nautilus' and it's night and day difference: was so bad I had to turn the stereo up very loud and still had trouble hearing music.
3) the passenger massager was louder than the driver (not sure if it's normal?
4) the suspension despite supposedly having the adaptive, was harsh. It was loud and we could feel a harsh thump with even road cracks (again different from other test drive with 21s and ours are 20s)
5) due to those thumps we heard a lot of rattles.
6) once with my wife sitting in the passenger seat the airbag said off.
7) I felt my seat change it's bolster/ lumbar a couple of times automatically.
8) upon acceleration up a hill mostly but any decent power, I heard a whine/crackling even? Not every time though..
9) finally, is the ambient light along the wood part in the dash dimmer than the rest?

Not really a problem but did notice when I turned the steering wheel a certain direction, some light would turn on and then slowly fade after going back to middle. Does that seem norm?

Thanks everyone!

Has anyone had similar issues and success getting them addressed? I just got out of a lemon with a Kia sportage hybrid due to wind seal and other issues and even with its problems (which werent addressed) , my sportage was quieter than the nautilus even though it was having air issues and it had highway all terrains. Worries we picked up another lemon, but what made the kia bad was the dealer/company response. How does lincoln treat its owners?

The noise issues can stem from any number of things. What I’ve noticed in my 2021 Nautilus (201A) is that the presence of a cross-wind will affect (increase) wind noise in the car. As for road noise, there are many factors on this too, road quality and tire condition being chief among them. Rough roads have more noise. Have you checked your tires for wear, tread depth, and pressure? This would affect ride quality as well.

As for turning and lights, those are cornering lamps and they appear to be working fine based on what you described.

Thanks. Yes the tires have decent tread. No worse than the others I test drove. As far as wind noise, no cross wind. But we could smell fresh air/stinky air when we had recirculate. It was strong.

Have you noticed the seats deflate? What about the ambient lighting?

Know anything about the noise upon acceleration? Thanks!

I don't have the massaging seats. Have not noticed the ambient lighting but will look and see. On acceleration, mine just gives a nice vrooom, no weird noises.

I think your car may still be under factory warranty, so go get that stuff checked out.

Thanks for checking on those things! It is under factory warranty especially due to certified. Just wanted to see if others were experiencing some of these issues and see how to present to a lincoln service rep. We've not had the best results of working with service reps when had problems: granted those were mainstream non luxury. Our Lexus and rover were better experiences, so hoping lincoln is the same!

Hi mattpbryant. Here are a few thoughts/opinions:
1) Double check against other similar model year Nautilus vehicles. Have it checked under warranty if necessary.
2) Could be a tire issue. Have it checked under warranty if necessary.
3) Tracking/tracing sounds and noises can be tricky. So sit in the passenger seat with both seats set to massage and see if the driver seat sounds louder from there. Be sure both seats are set to all the same settings/intensity. Double check against other similar model year Nautilus vehicles and have it checked under warranty if necessary.
4) Check tire pressures with a good quality tire pressure gauge. Be sure they are set to the Manufacturers psi recommendation listed on the driver door sill placard (not the psi listed on the tires). And do not depend on the TPMS system readouts in the Driver Information Center. If the ride is still rough after checking and adjusting the tire pressures, have it checked under warranty if necessary.
5) Same as above. Also try the "Comfort" ride setting in the Adaptive Suspension settings.
6) How much does your wife weigh? If she is very small/light (<~95 lbs.), the Airbag off light may be normal. If that is is not the case here, have it checked under warranty if necessary.
7) The bolster/lumbar will change when the massage seats are turned on/turn off. If it is randomly changing when the massage seats are off, then there is an issue. Have it checked under warranty if necessary.
8) Should not be a "whine/crackling" sound on acceleration. Have it checked under warranty if necessary.
9) The dash ambient lighting is a bit shielded and can be a bit dimmer/less visible than the ambient lighting in the rest of the vehicle. This is to avoid a distracting reflection in the windshield at night. But it never hurts to double check against other similar model year Nautilus vehicles. Have it checked under warranty if necessary.

I realize you may/probably already know much of this information, but I am only trying to cover the bases as best as possible.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

CERTIFIED! huh...

Not catching your meaning? Trying to imply it's shocking that they'd certify a vehicle with these issues (as in how it could get passed it?)

Have a 2013 MKX have message "battery saver on - turn off engine or start ignition". Can't start since there is not enough power. Jumped and started, went to store, restarted after hour sitting. In the morning dead. The shift kit was replaced two weeks ago fixing not in park message. Seems, this has been a problem for similar problems. The battery is fine, passed at test. Any ideas, beside getting another vehicle.

Regarding your tire issue- if you have 21" tires you can expect a harsher and louder ride. Owners manual mention this. I have 20" on a 2020 and I also think the ride is harsher than it should be. I've driven a loaner with 19" and it was much quieter.

Hello! Thanks for the reply. I have 20s and I know the continental contact sport tires aren't very good. However, I have driven a nautilus with 21s and we didn't notice the noise or ride harshness (both have that road preview suspension feature).. just not sure if it's possible for the vehicle to be missing sound deadening material? Or it shifted? Or a way to add? Thanks!

I also have Continental Contact tires. I had them on a Lexus and they were okay but were 19’s. I’m leaning toward Pirellis soon.

Yeah. I have had pirellis in the past. They can be quiet at first, but then get really loud. Their traction performance seems to be hit or miss. Heck on my previous vehicle I had the bridgestone highway all terrains, and that vehicle (non luxury) was quieter than this on the highway! I have had trouble hearing when doing phone conversations and it even drowned out some music even with the 19 speaker set up.

I have 2022 Nautilus 2.7.Regrettably, I'm experiencing persistent wind noise inside the cabin, and the Lincoln agency has been unable to resolve the issue.

As for wind noise I find the car to be very quiet and probably why the tire noise bothers me. The way cars are designed now I think there are more things low on the car that can snag the wind and cause noise than higher up. Maybe the noise your hearing isn't as high up as you think. I don't want to high jack your string but wonder what 20" tire you would recommend?

Hello,

Well I think we definitely are hearing some wind noise around the windshield given its whistle sound and the smell of exhaust. But the road noise we hear I think comes from the door area (maybe not tightly sealed)..

As far as tires. That's a good question. As I said the highway all terrains were very quiet. But to be honest I've never had a bad Michelin tire (and they have a 3 peak tire). I might consider falken wildpeak to see how they fare with noise as I've read people said are pretty quiet.

well at least your dealers admit to it. I haven't gotten mine to do that yet.

The main point here is not just admitting my concern, but the fact that the problem remains unsolved. This makes acknowledging the issue feel insignificant.

Wind Noise has been in issue for years though as a FYI. My wifes 2017 MKX Reserve has it, my 2018 MKX Reserve has it as well, and I have heard of the wind noise issue across all years sadly.

I have narrowed down wind noise problems in older cars by putting masking tape tightly on suspect seams, angles, etc, then going for a spin to see if the tape sealed up the problem area. If it does, figure out a permanent fix.
