i have a 2003 Town Car its giving me the code p1233, car cranks but no start. i tested the fuel pump driver module and inertia switch, bypassing the fpdm allowed the engine to start, but now the car is running properly. i suspect the fpdm is the problem. is there any other cause that i should check before replacing the module?

I would also replace the fuel filter

If the engine runs properly after by-passing the driver module, sounds like you have diagnosed the issue. Replace the module get your Lincoln on the road.

fuel filter and pump have been replaced recently, i think that previous owner was trying to fix the same problem and fired the parts cannon a few times

I checked on the part number and lincoln says its on back order with no date for arrival, i have heard that the fuel pump driver module is the same on all fords and i can find others that are cheaper and readily available, would they work for my car one of them says it works for a gt mustang so that would be the same motor, so i cant think why it would not work. does anyone know for sure? before i waste time and money on useless parts.

These are not typically made for multiple models.
Like most electronics the parts are tailored for specific applications.
Now if the engineering numbers matched, then go ahead.

And the aftermarket would be an acceptable source for me. Especially on a 20 year old vehicle.

A quick search on the net turned up this picture. It is a used fuel pump driver module. Allegedly to be for a 2003 Town Car.
If correct, you could search using the engineering number. However I might be inclined to find the number on your FPDM and confirm that is the engineering number.

yes this is the same number as is in my car. what are the engineering numbers? from what i could find the base part number is the 9D732. is that the number i need to look for?

i found this part that looks the same and says it works on an 03 mustang with the 4.6L, but does not specifically say it works for a town car or any of the panther chassis.

The engineering number is marked on the part. It has other applications that I won't get into as it is not relevant to your purpose.

The Ford service part number is similar however it is NOT the number listed on the part. This is unique to Ford parts.

That Dorman product does not state it works on 2003 Town Car. I would assume that means it will NOT work on your 2003 Town Car. I went further on Dorman's site and did not find a FPDM for your vehicle. If they do not list your vehicle application, my recommendation is do not buy it.

Assuming that the engineering number of 3W1F 9D372 AB is correct for your application

There a bunch of used ones on ebay.
Most will have a 30 day return policy.

In the event you can not find a new one, you might give a used one a shot.
Just a suggestion.

yes that is the number that is printed on the part installed currently. i talked to ford and they said the part is currently on back order with no time for delivery. which probably means they arent making anymore, not surprising for a 20 year old car.

Mercury Grand Marquis takes same module as Lincoln and mustang of same years

They all have modules.
If the engineering number (prefix, base and suffix) is different or if the suffix is different, the operation of the module is not exactly the same.
