Has anyone else noticed that on the sliver of lights at the bottom of the rear bumper that come on as you approach the vehicle, that the one on the driver's side of the bumper lights up and as it wraps around the bumper on the that side it is just reflective, and on the passenger side it's the opposite, that the part of that sliver on the rear of the bumper is just reflective and the part around the side is lighted.
I found out from my Lincoln service department, after taking it in for repair, that this is the way the vehicle was designed.
It always looks like there is a light bulb burned out if you look at it from the rear.

Interesting. I have never looked at the lights in this manner. I'll probably be out tonight and will have to see if I notice this.

I'd never really noticed until my wife was backing out of the garage and I just happened to be standing in the driveway talking to a neighbor and saw it.
Let me know what you see if you don't mind. Mine is a 2020. It seems like a minor design flaw to me, or a money saving move.

Mine are the same on both sides. Looks like 3 small LEDs.

Does yours light up on the back of the bumper when you approach the car or is that just reflective?
On mine, there is only one location on each of those reflectors for a light. The one on the left only has a location for an LED on the rear part of the unit, and the right on the side part of the unit. Everything else is just a reflector.

It won't show unless you maximize the photo. There is a light composed of 3 LEDs on both the right and left corners for the Approach Lights. The reflectors are at the rear and 'inward' from the LEDs. Both corners are identical. The rear reflectors can be seen in the picture as is without maximizing it. As far as I can see, the LED lights are not on the reflectors but inside the entire assembly.

They are inside the assembly. On the left side the assembly lights up on the rear part of the bumper and the side is just reflective. It does just the opposite on the right side.
There is no place for an LED to be installed in the assembly on the rear part of the right side assembly, and no location for one on the right side on the side part of the assembly.
I hope that made sense.

The right side on mine is the same as the left. In other words, yours and mine are not the same. Mine is like the right one shows in your picture but on both sides. It does not have what yours shows on the left.

I've read a lot of posts on this forum the last few months. It seems like there are many differences in these cars. I guess this is one of them. Maybe there was a running change during the model year that makes yours different than mine.

Are you located outside the U.S. and are your fog lights turned on in this photo?

I'm located in the US, and no, the fog lights are not on. When I took the picture I just walked up to the car as you would any time.

Interesting. From the looks of the intensity of the light on the photo you posted, it looked like rear fog lights. I don’t have that on mine; just regular LEDs on the side part of the rear bumper.

So your Aviator does not have the lights on the rear of the bumper, just on both sides.

Yup! Does it stay on after you start your Aviator? How about when on reverse (backing up)?

I've never looked to see if they stay on after start up or when backing up. I'll take a look see some time though.

Mine light up when lift gate is open
Thanks for the info. What year and trim is your Aviator?
BTW, the last post here was 4 years ago,

Peter
