I notice some Contis have a big black button antenna at the center rear of the roof and some have the "shark fin." What is the differential?

No difference besides the shape. It's the satellite antenna.

The button version seems to be a 2017 model characteristic; 2018s and later seem to have the fin. If true, that makes it the only model year identifier I can think of.

I have a 2017 and would like to upgrade to 2018 and later shark fin.........any ideas?

Hi Duck. My advice: Leave it alone, as it is not worth the present and possible future problems.

It will provide no better functionality or reception. And to change it out, you would probably need to drop the back of the headliner (at least) to get at the fasteners. Then you will need to change it out, hope you seated and sealed it properly to avoid water leaks etc.

In my opinion, certainly not worth the trouble.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

It would be a waste of time and money.

Thanks guys, I was hoping it was just a cover replacement

Could this pass as a 2018 sharkfin? It fits quite well. Haven't stuck it down and tested the GPS reception yet, maybe tomorrow.

Hi Riker and welcome to the Lincoln forums. Well...although it is large and sort of bulbous, it is a "sharkfin".

Just as a personal opinion/observation, which you are free to ignore: I would not hide the small, unobtrusive factory antenna cover with that.
However, it is your car, so do what you think looks good.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the welcome! Point taken, no fake bulbous sharkfin. BTW how does the actual one look like? I thought it came close? :)

There are plenty of pics elsewhere in this Forum and on the web of the "stock" fin; here is one

Although mine is like the above, I wouldn't mind if it were a "hockey puck", either.

I think the one you're thinking of installing is actually pretty close to the stock and only manic Conti-spotters would notice the difference.

At the end of the day, it is just a matter of personal preference.
