My parents bought a brand new, top of the line, Lincoln Continental. They have issues with the driver's side power seat. They set the memory buttons but a few times the seat has randomly moved all the way forward. My mom (80 yrs old) has to quickly get herself out of the way so she doesn't get squeezed into the steering wheel. She's only 5'5" and 150 lbs. After that happens, the forward/back button won't move the seat until you mess with the other buttons/turn the car on/off. It is scary to feel that seat pushing you forward into the str wheel. They took it in to a dealership who flashed the computer and told them it was fixed. It happened again yesterday. Wondering if anyone else has insight into this issue? Is there some strange combination that locks it up? Maybe something she pushes/key fob location? Thanks

The dealer needs to replace the control mechanism under warranty.

Hi jennrobb. When does this occur? Immediately after getting into the car? After starting the car? After hitting a preset button? As jhartz mentioned, it is most likely an electronics issue which the Dealer needs to address.

I would just recommend you checking one item: Check the memory/preset buttons just to be sure someone did not accidentally program in an erroneous seat setting which is pushing the seat all the way forward. Probably not the issue, but could save you a trip to the Dealer.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Thanks for the reply. It happens immediately after she gets in the car. I don't see it being the preset since it wouldn't be saved with the seat that close to the steering wheel.

Hi jennrobb. I agree that it is probably not the preset and said so above. However, your parents are ~80, so could have made a mistake. Unlikely considering your descriptiion of the issue, but possible. Just press each preset button and see where the seat adjusts to. I would also check to be sure that they did not accidentally set a seat memory position to the keyfob your mother uses.

It would only take a few minutes to check, and checking could save you a lot of time and aggravation if it spares you from going back to the Dealers Service Department.

Good luck either way.

All good advice listed above. It could easily be the power seat module located under the seat. I had to have mine replaced under warranty shortly after getting my Continental. Mine was not doing what is described here, but that module is the key to seat controls as well as the memory options.

Hi jennrobb5,

This sounds like an Intelligent Access Key fob programming issue.
It’s very easy to setup on a 2009 mkS 3.7L which should be similar and not far off from your model.

I was able to setup the Intelligent Access Key fob in under 2 minutes on a 2009 Lincoln mkS 3.7L, shown here (
). It works with both of the seat memory positions.

2017 Continental. I also had problems with both the seat memory (seat position very uncomfortable) and also the steering wheel memory. Took to dealers (note I said dealers, not dealer). Could not fix this great “Luxury Car”. Got fed up and got rid of car. BTW, I also had other problems with this “luxury Car”.
This was the worse FoMoCo car I’ve ever had, vice the two 1998 and one 2002 Continentals which were the very BEST cars I’ve ever had. As for seats, my 1994 T-Bird had the very best seats I’ve ever had.

Sorry.

To add to my previous post above, in the past 24 months, I’ve only seen three (3) 2017-2019 Continentals in the wild.

One parked in my church parking lot one day.

One parked at Golden Corral Buffet.

One on street pulling into a Chinese Restaurant parking lot.

I guess others feel the same way about this “Luxury Car”.

Sorry.

I own a 2017 Reserve and it's the finest automobile I've ever owned. Very comfortable ride, good power with the twin turbo, great handling and a super quiet cabin. It currently has 127,000 miles and, knock on wood, I've only performed scheduled maintenance, brakes, tires and had to replace one sensor for less than $200. With all the bells and whistles i was concerned, but the fewest problems of ANY car I've owned. This one is number 16. I'm very upset that the stopped making them. If but it over and over of they were still available.
