Hi all,
I've been told my AC sensors are the cause of it not staying cool. My mechanic cleaned the sensors and the AC cooled nicely for about a week. Now it cools then then room temp for a while then cool again.
I want to know if it is possible for the AC to run in the coolest temp all the time? Is there a fuse that I can remove or a bypass that can be done?

Thanks!

Please check with your so-called ‘mechanic’ and tell us what sensors he cleaned. I’ve never heard of anything like that.

Yes as long as the A/C system is working as engineered. You simply turn it to the lowest temperature setting.

No.

The "sensor" he cleaned was the small vent looking thing on the instrument panel. I'm guessing he assumes it senses temperatures much like a home thermostat does.

Thanks for your help

That sensor is called the automatic temperature control sensor. Air is pulled through it by suction from the blower motor and the thermistor measures the temperature of the air passing through it and that data is an input to the EATC module.

I would put finding a new 'mechanic' on the top of your 'to do list'. I hope you didn't pay him for what he did, which was nothing. IMO, he doesn't know if he is horseback or afoot. I would assume nothing about this guy in the future.

There is absolutely no maintenance of this item listed in the service manual.

Is your compressor running? Is the suction accumulator/drier cold and sweating? If both answers are yes, I would continue your diagnosis by performing the EATC controller self test. http://lincolnforums.com/forums/threads/10459-Town-Car-EATC-Self-test?p=40224#post40224

It smells/stinks like a FUBAR BDA (blend door actuator).

Good luck.

Went to an AC specialist this morning. Turns out it was the control panel. Freezing cold now.

Thanks very much for the great info!
