What 5 years of sitting up do to a fuel pump.

I have a 1994 Lincoln Town car with less than 75,000 miles on. It's been sitting up for about 5 years from the previous owner. Been putting off dealing with. Today me and buddy finally dropped the fuel tank to take a look at that fuel pump. Gas at the very bottom of the tank poured out like water. Looked like ice tea. And you guys can see the end result for the fuel pump assembly.

That's some nasty stuff, right there! I bet it smelled great, too! LOL!
Were you able to get the tank clean, or did you just opt for a different one that was in better shape?

Where's the float?

I'm going to try to clean that gas tank out. Think I can get it cleaned up and let airdry. Don't know about the float. That is what I pulled out. Tank is empty.
