The attached article (Town Car Cooling system service) describes an approach to servicing the cooling system for 1992 through 2011 Town Car models. It is expected that the cooling system is in good condition and only requires flushing with clear water. For those cooling systems where the coolant is very dirty and rusty looking then it needs to be flushed with a commercial flushing compound. There are additional posts that provide Ford's recommended procedures for using these chemicals. Just make sure all the chemicals are removed afterward by completely flushing the system with clear water.

Since the thermostat will need to be removed for all 1998 and up models the procedure is also attached. Same procedure for all model years.

Good luck.

1997 Town Car cooling system servicing

Attached are the procedures to service the cooling system on a 1997 Town Car. These procedures are representative for all models from 1992 thru 1997, since the cooling systems are identical.

Good luck.

1992 Town Car cooling system service

The attached documents describe the cooling system and its components and the procedures for draining the coolant, flushing and refilling. There is no bleeding process in the refill procedure for the 1992 thru 1994 models. The 1995 model procedures introduced the practice of removing the heater hose at the outlet of the heater core to allow air to escape while the system is filled from the degas bottle. This bleeding practice continued through 1997. So the 1997 procedures would be best to use for all 1992 thru 1997 models, but that is just my opinion.

Good luck.

If it is remembered to NEVER put anything but DISTILLED water with the antifreeze the system will stay clean and clear forever.

I don't think that is true. The anti-corrosion additives in the coolant have a life expectancy of a few years, such as 2 years for green, 3 for gold, etc. When the additives are used up electrolysis (from the variety of different metals used in vehicle engines and cooling systems) becomes a major problem and starts eating the metals. The result is dirty looking coolant that soon becomes rusty looking coolant and then the various components start to leak or perform poorly. Lubricating additives are depleted as well as many others.

Distilled water and de-ionized water may be better than clean drinking water, but regular replacement of the coolant is even better.

Just another point of view.
