My Lincoln
2024 Naultilus Reserve AWD Hybrid
Good afteroon, we purchased our car last September and further to a post I made back in December, the issues continued. In addition to the numerous software issues , we were stranded recently because the coolant pump failed. we ended up having to be towed to the local Ford dealer as the closest Lincoln dealer was 250 kilometers away.

I must say the Lincoln Roadshow Service was great and made a bad situation a little better

There was a delay in getting the new cooling pumo and 2 weeks after towed in, it was fixed.

Nothing has occurred in the last few weeks however we are considering trading it in before the next issue. Would appreciate any comments regarding your experiences, are we jumpimg the gun too quickly? We realize we will be taking a large loss however my question is trying to figure out a realistic value.

Details

What unique issues have you had. I assume you are in Canada.

Good Morning Dave O.
As one Canadian to another I understand your thoughts here. Just a heads up for you. I am in the GTA , where there are still quite a few new 24s still available. The first batch of new 26s will be on the water within the next few weeks , and the lots are still full of 25s with more on the way. That being said the dealers around here are doing deals on 24s at $10k off list, and depending on circumstances you may be able to do better. With 22000 kilometres on the clock $62 may be a real stretch.
For your sake I hope I am wrong.

Hi DaveO. Just another opinion here, with a little experience mixed in:

First…Things happen and that is what warranties are for. It seems that while this was certainly an inconvenience, everything was taken care of in a satisfactory manner (did you receive a complementary loaner?).
While I’m not familiar with your previous software issues…Unless they were extremely serious, or you just can’t live with it/them…my opinion is you would be “…jumping the gun”.

Next…Yes, you will take a big loss. There are many factors involved, so how much of a loss is just a guessing game. Just as one example…The amount will depend on whether you sell your vehicle privately (lowest possible loss if you can find a buyer), or trade it in (largest loss). Whatever the deficit amount may be, is that loss something you can live with?

The most efficient way to determine an approximate idea how much your used vehicle is currently worth is to use consumer sites like KBB.com, NADA.com, Edmunds.com etc., and use their pricing tools to determine the estimated trade-in value, and private-party sale values of your vehicle.
In my experience, this will give you a more accurate baseline to begin working off of, than anonymous online pricing opinions (including mine😉) which will be all over the map, in at least two different currencies, etc. etc.

You can also stop by a few local dealerships to see what type of trade-in amounts they will offer. However, life experience generally dictates that trade-in offers will also be all over the place. And also highly dependent on whether you plan on purchasing a new car from them, since it allows them to juggle the numbers more ( between the trade-in and new car purchase prices).

Again, just another opinion here.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Thanks for your question, this was the original list and addons. Updates in bold below

Original List

Engine Light Issue - I think something with fuel sensor when filling car Took 3 visits to have it solved
App - have your app guy go over the issues with us and solution, numerous issues Some solved after visit
Brakes - I understand that this will get fixed when parts come in, but do you have an ETA yet? Fixed now but more than a few months delay

Please add:

Deep Sleep Warning - says battery is low and puts some battery function in sleep, mentions that you may have trouble starting the engine and need a boost. This hasn't happened yet Hasn't happened in a few months
Radio, sirius etc won't work, display works but after turning engine off and back on, works Still an issue randomly
Radio presets drop Happens randomly
Security alarm going off when nobody around car Seems to be fixed
Other settings drop (e.g. max idle time disabled but keeps coming back on) Happen randomly
When the massage is on, sometimes when the car is restarted, the massage is still on, is that right? OK
Big display often drops settings (sometimes see brake coach, sometimes not) ditto for weather, then comes back for awhile Still happens, has occured when driving, going completely black, again randomly

4th Visit was for

Screen flashing Hasn't happened lately
Blue cruise sometimes doen't sense hands on wheel and if continues for a period of time , car will vibrate (I guess to wake you up) Dealer couldnt simulate the issue
Sometime have to press tailgate opener a few times to get it to open Dealer couldnt simulate the issue
Sometimes back up alarm doesn't sound Still random

Ofcourse in between the 3rd and 4th visits, was the cooling pump tanking, which as mentioned go fixed at local Ford dealer

Thank you so much for your reply and suggestions. Appreciate it very much

Everything hasn't been solved ( I would say 3/4 have been) and its now 10 months into the dealer being aware and 4 visits and the issue with the cooling pump which resulted in tow to a Ford dealer since the closest Linclon dealer was 250 km away
Thank god for warrantees however feeling that this is excessive for any new car but even more so for an $82K car

Yes concerned about the potential loss, again thank you for your insights

Thank you for your opinion, especially making me aware of a "glut" of 2024 on the market. yes that may make it difficult to mitigate some of the losses, will keep you in the loop

Thanks again!

I checked my dealer's stock and they do not have any 24s either new or used. They have some 25s with many more in transit.

From looking at trade in value one could lose 10k to 15k.

I'm with you. I'm dumping my 2019 the moment I pay it off. I've had it for just over two years and this is what's been fixed so far.
Tranmissions - Basically ate itself just a few monthsa after purchase
Driver side heated seat - Didn't work
Rear Hatch - Stopped working a year after purchase, took three months for them to figure out. Year later (now) starting to act up again.
Steering motor - yes there's a motor in the steering column. A few months after the hatch was fixed, the steering motor went out. I was backing out of a parking spot at Target, the steering wheel suddenly went 90 degrees off center. Thankfully I got it down to the dealer to get it repaired. That also sat for two months, part back-ordered.

Yes I know "things happen and that's what warranties are for" Thank god I bought one because the tranmission repair would have been 9k out of pocket if I hadn't. But this many things for a car that was only four years old (at the time) is NOT normal.

Lincolns are crap. I'll never buy one again after I get rid of this one.

Well the 2019 was also a first year of the MKX to nautilus changeover. It was the first year of the 8F57 transmission and had some torque converter issues. Likely had early failure symptoms that were known by the dealer/seller prior and not disclosed. The 2.7L was revised for 2019 also but no major change from the 2018 MKX.

Okay. That's not an excuse to put out a piece of junk and throw their hands in the air with major components fail. They should have issued a recall if the issues were that rampant.

I believe there were several TSBs issued but no recalls. Mostly early builds were effected but symptoms were pretty noticeable. I had my torque converter replaced within the first 5000 miles and RDU replaced soon after.

Ouch. This is definitely encouraging me to extend my CPO warranty on my 2021, at least for powertrain if that an option.

I would suggest contacting the Lincoln Concierge and requesting a buy back from Lincoln. You will need to answer several questions regarding how many days your vehicle has been out of service from the day you took possession.
You would be assigned a buy back specialist first. They will review your case and determine if Lincoln will repurchase your vehicle. If they approve the buy back, you will be assigned a coordinator that will request and review documentation and set up the appointment for surrender of the vehicle. This is based upon my previous experience in the US. The procedure in Canada may be different.

If you added anything onto the vehicle you will need receipts for those add-ons.

When you surrender the vehicle it must be in as pristine condition as possible with both sets of key fobs. The dealership will only act as an intermediary between you and Lincoln.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions, they are really appreciated

I am going to call my sales rep and see if the buy back program is available in Canada

Interesting that i received a recall notice last week for many but not all of the software issues that we have experienced. They say that since the update was done on our car, there isn't anything for me to do

Problem, some of those are still occuring and a couple of the other items (tailgate, reverse warning etc.) are still happenning.

Of course when we mentioned the software issues, they hadnt heard of many reports...sure..

Thank again for all of your comments

My own experience with check engine light. Was an ongoing issue with no problem found.
Finally turned out one of the numerous models was not getting updated. Module was isolated and updated.
Short time later new software came out, dealer had tech come to my home and installed update program validated all modules accepted the updates. Since then zero issues with any electronics.

Wish I knew about this buy back program. I got into it with the concierge rep during one of the repairs because he was never available when I needed to talk with him. And when I talked to the service rep at the Ford dealership, he told me the concierge offered zero input or assistance on getting any of the repairs completed. I found zero value in that service.
