Greetings Lincoln enthusiasts,

I'm new to the forums and happy to be here. I've owned various model cars (cadillac, chevy, ford, etc...) but have always wanted a Lincoln and found a nice 2000 continental near me with low miles (about 60k). I'm new to these cars and so my question is:

What are the most common issues with this particular model (1995-2002 continental)? I've heard stories about the electrical gremlins and air suspension... would these be the main things to look for with this model or do other things come to mind?

I bought a 2002 Continental about a year and a half ago with 79K on the clock.
My first Lincoln (and first Ford product.)
The only problem I’ve had with it was with the air springs.
I replaced them with coil springs. Everything else works fine.
You will read/hear that the transmissions in these cars are prone to early failure.
A lot of the problems in the earlier models were corrected, but some remain.
Before you put many miles on your Continental, change the transmission fluid and filter.
Then change it every 30K miles thereafter.
I would also change the coolant and brake fluid.
Keep in mind your “new” car is 18 years old and may have the original bushings, gaskets, hoses, etc.
While many Lincoln folks don’t like the FWD platform, I find it a very nice riding car with good performance and handling for a large sedan.
Good luck with your Continental
