Did anyone else receive a Synch 3 update notice on their LincolnWay app today?

Now that you mention it I looked at the Lincoln way app and yes. My wife is that work with the car so I will attempt an over the air update tonight. Past over the air updates have sometimes worked and also miserably failed resulting in a complete start over and using a USB stick. Hopefully that won't be the case this time…

I checked for an over the air update while sitting in the car and it says there were none available. Off to a flying stop because I know there is one available…

I'm thinking they roll out updates a little at a time instead of a mass roll out. This would keep the servers from getting overloaded every time there is an update.

I just checked for an update via my VIN and it says I am up to date.

I’ll check mine shortly. Your thought is probably correct.

I know a lot of updates happen that way. Still, if your Lincoln Way app notifies you of a update there should be a update if one is available. The app is tied to your vehicle VIN #

Hi macsterguy. This is going to be hard to explain in an understandable manner, but I will do the best I can: What your vehicle's SYNC system may actually be attempting to state is that it can not find an update at that time. However, that does not necessarily mean there is no update available on the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website.

Essentially, it can simply mean that the SYNC system in your car was unable to find an update. This can be due to many factors, including but not limited to a bad or weak WiFi connection (even if it has worked before). Or the factor that WiFi updates via SYNC 3/3.3/3.4 are problematic for many in the first place.

A really loose analogy...It is the sort-of-equivalent of our wife/husband telling us they can not find the scissors in the drawer by the microwave (even though you know they are there). So you go and show them that in fact, the scissors are there. In this case, the SYNC 3 system is our wife/husband telling us there are no scissors in the drawer, when in fact, there are. They just can't see them. ;):ROFLMAO:

I will also state that this may not be the issue with your SYNC 3 system not seeing available SYNC updates. However, it is the case with many.

Also, to avoid confusion for others (it has already happened): SYNC 3/3.3/3.4 is not capable of true OTA/over the air updates (i.e. updates via data transfer...similar to a cellphone). SYNC 3/3.3/3.4 are only capable of downloading updates via WiFi. So if the vehicle is not connected to a strong WiFi network signal, it can not find or download SYNC updates.

Only SYNC 4 is capable of true OTA/over the air updates.

It may all only seem like a matter of semantics, but it is not.

Hope this is not too confusing of an explanation, and good luck.

Thanks. Yes, I completely understand the process. What I don't understand is how Lincoln keeps over promising on the sync3 system. Direct usb installation is what my dealer told me to do at the last fiasco adding "it just doesn't work and they don't advise using over-the-air updates... It's just like the pick up and drop off with loaner cars. They still run the commercials constantly but it never happens in reality. My wife loves the car. It's all good

Hi Macsterguy. The scarce loaner situation is an individual Dealer issue, not a Lincoln problem. That was often the case even before the pandemic shortages.

I have no problems getting loaner cars when I need service, including for my older MKZ which technically does not even qualify for a free loaner.

Of course, that all depends on sometimes needing to wait for an appointment for loaner availability.

Good luck.

The topic is Sync3 updates in this thread. I only brought up the loaner vehicles as another false promise/statement made by Lincoln. Just like Sync3 updates... If things don't work just admit it. Otherwise, loose customers respect.

On the topic of loaner vehicles - Once again, I understand what you are saying but unfortunately the reality is that Lincoln should >stop< running the commercials (of the lady sipping coffee while all goes smoothly for her) if it's not fully supported by sanctioned Lincoln dealers... That's great that you are able to get a loaner for service >as promised<. In our case, in Dallas / Fort Worth, willing to wait or not, loaner vehicles are no longer an option according to the two dealers where I tried (**Because we needed the loaner >as promised<)... I completely sympathize with what is going on in this world so we dealt with it.

Not a big deal but STOP the commercials if it just ain't true is my point. I saw one last night 😂

Hi Macsterguy. Yes, I know the topic of this thread is SYNC 3 updates. You mentioned that you have problems getting loaner vehicles, and I simply provided additional information concerning the topic you brought up. That is why we are here, to provide information for others, even if you or I may not care about that information at the moment.

This is not an argument, since I sympathize with your plight. And you are free to complain about it as much as you like. I am not trying to stop you. I was simply providing information.

Good luck.

In nyc, I’ve checked with three dealers. Same Situation with all three. They do have updates but you have to wait about a month after you make a reservation. Obviously good for things that can wait but useless if you have a major problem.

The only thing great about the corsair is the car. Yes, it’s unreliable and dealer service sucks. Still, it’s a fun car with a cushy luxurious feel. The driver assist stuff is great for 2021. In 2026, the driver assist will be like brick cell phones. Still the tech is great for today. Love the massage seats and HUD. All in all, it’s a great boy toy.

I had a 2020 that I Lemon lawed. Now I have a 2021. Soon, I will do a post comparing it too. It is just amazing how many petty things Lincoln cut back on. Examples -the netting on the right side of the cargo area is gone. The engine cover is gone. The rear headrests no longer fold down. Petty petty cutbacks.

Flatsfish, did you check to see if you had the update over-the-air?
Yes. The message said my software is current. Thanks for asking.

Did anyone else receive a Synch 3 update notice on their LincolnWay app today?
Had the alert from Lincon Way for the update to Sync Tuesday. I have Wi-Fi coverage in my garage and the car is set for auto update. I checked last night and the version is now 3.4 with a 2019 map update as well.

Maybe it's different for Navigators. I can't find how to set up alerts on the app for Sync updates.

Hi Paddy. What was your previous SYNC version? And what was your previous NAV map version? And what model and model year is your vehicle?

If you received a NAV map update, it should now be "NA 2 20", not a 2019 map version.

Am currently, as I type this, chatting with a help person the app. She says there is no update notification feature. Weird.

Hi gang. I think some of the confusion occurring may be due to this: At least until recently, when the LincolnWay app says to check for SYNC updates, it is not telling us there is necessarily and/or definitely a SYNC update available for our vehicle. The app is only reminding us to periodically check to see if there are any available on the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website.

This is the reason for the confusion when some owners are complaining that the LincolnWay app "Told me my SYNC updated, but it was the same when I checked". Or when an owner states "The LincolnWay app told me there is an update available, but when I go to the website, it says I am up to date".

I get the same reminders periodically. However, they are only reminders for us to check the SYNC update website and see if there are updates, not telling me there is definitely an available update.

Unless something has changed very recently, that seems to be where the confusion occurs.

The wording can be confusing.

Good luck.
