Hello I have a 2000 Lincoln Town Car Cartier and I am having a problem with the subs randomly turning off and back on. I am wondering if this is the amp or sub. I know the sub works because it sounds awesome when it works. I really miss my stereo please help.
P.s. all other speakers work great
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere.

Could be the remote cable that tells the amp to turn on, can you confirm if it is on when the sound cuts out?

Speaker wires too from the head unit to the amp and the amp to the sub I would check.

I pulled the sub out this morning the connection was good and the sub is good but without a wire diagram I have no idea which wire goes to what on the amp.

Does the amp feed the other speakers as well and not just the sub?

From what I can tell the amp feeds to all the speakers.

Ok so I'd imagine that if all the other speakers are working fine then it can't be a faulty amp.
Must be something wrong with the connection to the sub. Possibly from the amp to the sub or from the sub box to the speaker itself on the inside. Something may have come loose.

I'd just try plugging the sub back in. Does the sub sound distorted when it is working?

No the sub sounds good when it's working but it just randomly shuts off. Could it be a bad terminal where the sub connects to the amp?

"just randomly shuts off". Does it happen when you have it cranked up? And if so, does playing it quietly cause it to shut off as well or does it keep playing? I'm just wondering if there is some sort of thermal cutoff in the amp.

It happens faster when it is louder but it still happens when its low.

Sorry for digging up a thread from the dead but...
did we ever find a solution to this? I am having a similar issue in my 02 and I have been scouring the forum search function yet to find any definitive answers.

My sub comes and goes as it pleases. No difference on volume. Started out as cutting off occasionally, by now it turns on occasionally but is usually not working.
