Hello everyone!

I'm new to these forums, and a new Lincoln MKT owner, so please forgive me if I make any mistakes here.

I recently purchased a used 2010 Lincoln MKT, and one of the rear reversing sensors was loose and fell into the bumper (see pictures).

I've research online a ton to see if there's a way to remove the reflector panel from the outside, or simply re-seat the sensor from under the bumper, but I haven't turned up anything useful. I feel like the rear reflector may just be held in by clips, but I'm not sure and I don't want to rip anything out and break it.

Does anyone know what the best way to go about getting the reverse sensor back in place is? Can the reflector panel simply be pulled off the bumper if it's held by clips?

Thank you!

I think you are going to have to go to a dealer, there aren't many if any technicians in here. I see that most questions that deal with anything beyond entry level basic questions, will receive no replies. If you want an opinion of which Autozone stick-on goo gaws, there are plenty of options, but if you want to actually repair something, there is no help here. I bought a factory service manual set complete with wiring for $40 on ePay, that may be your best bet on getting an answer w/o dealing with a dealer who likely will not care about you enough to offer free advice. $$

Amphicar, Just because you cannot get an answer to quite technical questions here, doesn't mean we're all 'do-dos' & 'link-um-poops'!
I consider myself an advanced do-it-yourselfer, but I would NEVER strip out my steering column!
Your comment was un-called for!

You certainly are entitled to your opinion but I disagree. There are few answers to any concerns beyond the most basic of topics. The topic with the most replies deals with if he should buy his wife a MKT.

Nothing wrong with people not knowing how to do much, they just are not here. My questions got about a hundred views (probably several times that saw the title) and yet not a single reply. If you think I am so wrong, show me how because the evidence is pretty clear that I am not wrong.

Not to hijack this tread, so I return you to this thread still without a helpful reply (66 views) except for mine below....

TexasLincoln,

I just got my factory service manuals last night, I will try to get the exploded view for you so you can fix your sensors.

I agree with you 100% and also consider myself to just as qualified. Modifying, tuning two of my own very fast turbocharged cars for 30 years now. But as I stated in another post, these modern cars are just way too complex to be messed with even by advanced do-it-yourselfers, with all the many computers that now control every aspect of their operation and all of them being interconnected and talking to each other.

If Amphicar wants to mess around with his own car as deeply as he does, more power to him. But to denigrate the rest of us because we choose not to is uncalled for. He even admits to having a complete set of factory service manuals. Since that's true, why rely so heavilly on us doofusses? and then bad mouth us because we can't or won't help.

I must be perfectly clear, I HAVE NEVER CALLED ANYONE NAMES, that is all on you. DO NOT PUT WORDS INTO MY MOUTH! I merely said that "..deal with anything beyond entry level basic questions" I have remained respectful, but honest. If you have such thin skin that you feel that you have been slighted, then maybe you should rethink your approach to life and work on being a better human rather than a bitter human.

It is you who chose to " to denigrate the rest .. " by being immature and saying things like "we're all 'do-dos' & 'link-um-poops'!" and "doofusses". These are NOT my words, they are YOURS.

So get off your high horse and look into yourself 1st before you try to turn my words into degrading comments. I am known around the world for my generosity of my time and expertice pertaining to the cars I restore and I spend many hours on the phone helping all who ask with their needs all for free. (rare and odd cars to be sure). Because I mentioned that I didn't see much help here, that doesn't in any way shape or form indicate that I think anyone is a doofuss. Although I believe that you are exactly that from your ignorant and self serving comments.

Welcome to the Forum.
Is there any way that you can use a coat hanger or similar item to fish round in the bumper? According to a couple of sites I looked at, it looks like the lower bumper might be removable.

The first one shows that it is held on by rivets but I'm not sure if it is those plastic ones or metal ones.
Good luck.

I'll see if I can post the exploded view of the rear bumper cover and the removal procedure from the manual. There are some single use pins that you must remove (and buy new ones to reinstall). I can't say for sure but you may be able to remove some to allow you to reach behind it to get to the sensor. As I recall it doesn't look very complicated.

I don't see that there is much tech help here, so please feel free to remind me if needed. Once I get home from work tonight and hopefully remember, I'll post that for you.

On another note, I apologize for the attempted hi-jacking of your thread by a couple of misguided folks. Hopefully they see the mistake they made and apologize. (I'm not holding my breath)

Not sure why SGilbert and turbodave are getting all hyper on. I did not take offense on anything what amphicar said. I dont believe he said anything bad.
