I’m slowly going thru my Town Car and fixing all the gremlins (some weird ones soon to come) , and I’m contemplating the Radio. The factory Alpine radio just gives me static on FM and no sound on AM. The CD in the dash and the cartridge disc in the trunk both work and sound great.

does this sound like a radio issue, an antennae issue or something else? The back window is tinted.

would love to keep the factory radio because it looks like it should be there versus the aftermarket not looking as good (not curved face)

what are y’all’s thoughts?

thank you!
Dave

It’s a common problem with the Alpine units, at least the version my 2003 had. If you can find a used one with the radio still working, that may be a good bet, as I would assume if the radio was going to fail it would have already.

Still, your best bet is to find one that’s refurbished. I got one from a company called Discount OEM Radios in Williamson, Georgia. If they don’t have one in stock, they might be able to fix yours.

Alternately, as best as I can tell, the Soundmark unit will also work. The rear plug configuration appears to be the same as the Alpine. I believe someone here confirmed it to be a direct change-out for the Alpine some months back - might try doing a search.

I did just as Wayne advised, bought a refurbished from the same place. Not as expensive as it you'd think, and the best part, my 1998 now has Bluetooth capability which they added.
