My Lincoln
2022 corsair
Hi to all in the land of Lincoln.
My wife drives a 2022 Corsair that has had problems since it was purchased, it has been into 2 local dealers, most everything has been replaced, radio, navigation and even a bad plug. The issue is that the radio goes out and the navigation system goes out, this also shuts down Bluetooth. Often it is proceeded by a large pop that seems to come from on the ceiling. The sound seems more audio in nature than electrical. In most cases they reload everything and says that it is fixed. I would say it has been in 8-10 times. Surely this must be a known problem, I am an electrical engineer and run a CNC repair business, I would love to see and service manual but being under warranty I am not going to pay the price and the dealers don't want suggestions.

UGH! Wow. I know you can never catch it happening either.

Doesn't it sound like a short/bad wire or connection which is breaking the infotainment system?...but where? The radio/nav/ infotainment center is connected to almost everything in the vehicle.

I have an old fashioned "short" finder which narrows down the area, however it takes working slow/patience. Supposedly these old ones work better than the electronic new ones. However, the short could only happen when you go over a bump or take a turn, so this tool probably wouldn't be able to find it

What does your dealer use to determine what needs to be replaced...and more importantly what happened to make that part go bad? I hope they're not just guessing.

Not wishing to brag but I am considered an expert in electronics. 40 plus years, 31 on my own. I would normally do this myself but under warranty, no. The dealer is not letting me talk to the techs or see a drawing of the system. The pop she hears has to be related to a poor connection at least going to the amps power supply, a short would blow a fuse. Sometimes it comes back and works fine often it comes back and all programming is lost. The tech did indicate a bad wiring harness, depending how he fixed it could point to an alteration to the problem or a failure to find it. I think the dealer would benefit from letting me look at the drawings or inspect the work when it is apart. I doubt they are doing much more than follow a flow chart. Few people are left who can look at a problem from an position of theory, experience, insight and intuition. I get paid well to do this for the CNC machining sector and have helped car dealers in the past.

My hope was someone on the forum had access to a drawing or someone knows of this as a common problem.

Lincoln has TSB's (like too many for me to go thru) for electrical systems including radio, amp and sub. Hopefully that large pop from the roof is electrical and not the glass roof, because glass roofs (for every mfr) are prone to shatter into thousands of tiny pieces falling on you if roof flexes or misalignment.

The dealer has probably done the 6 safety recalls, but here's the link:
