Phone as a key (PAAK) problems in my 2020 Aviator

I used an iPhone 8 until about 3 months ago when I replaced it with a iPhone 12 Pro Max. My wife uses an iPhone XR. For the first six to eight months PAAK worked fine. Since then it has been very unreliable. We have had the following problems with all three phones:

1. PAAK frequently will not let me open the door. I have had to use the key pad on the door or the Lincoln Way app (LWA) to open it.

2. PAAK will frequently allow me to open the door but not allow me to start the car. On some occasions, when this happens, I have used LWA to start the car. This starts the car but sometime it will not let me put it in gear and eventually the screen comes up for me to enter my password. After I put the password in I can put the car in gear.

3. On one occasion PAAK would not open the door or start the car and the screen for me to enter my password did not come up. As a precaution, I keep a fob wrapped in aluminum foil in the back of my car and was able to get it out and start my car, otherwise I would have been stranded.

Frequently when I use PAAK to start the car I end up pressing the start button around three times then the screen comes up for me to enter my password.

Usually when these things have happened the message "No Key Detected" comes up.

On many occasions when PAAK has failed I have checked LWA and noticed it says "Bluetooth Connected" .

PAAK fails about 25% of the time.

Hi Mike. The best course of action would be to make a service appointment and demonstrate these issues to the Service Writer and/or Tech.

Then let them properly diagnose the issue and correct it. And if they can not find the root cause, they can get Lincoln engineering involved so they can properly diagnose and correct the issue.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure if you're the same Mike Martin I know.
Do you have a brother named Chip?
If so I didn't know we might have the same vehicle.
Which model and what color do you have?

You should always have your Lincoln Way app running in the background and have your login info automatically saved.

I don’t have a brother named Chip.

I have a black Reserve II.

I do keep the Lincoln Way app running in the background.

I think the Lincoln Way app login info is saved. When I open the app it does not ask for user or password.

Thank you for your reply.

Hello, don’t know if you’ll see this or not but I have a 22 Black Label GT Aviator and the same problem. 25% of the time I get in the car and “no key recognized”. My app runs all the time and I look at Bluetooth in settings and there are 2 Lincoln aviator designations and they will say “not connected”. When I attempt to connect it will fail several times sitting in the car. Drive a little bit and it’s connected. This is very frustrating. Have an iPhone 11 so it’s not the phone. Something amiss in the design.

My daughter has the same issue with her 2022 Aviator. Last week it took 15 minutes to get the car started :(
The car also randomly turns lights on while it is charging or when it's parked in a parking structure at work. She has had nightmare about not being able to get into the car or start the car and being stranded. Service department had the car for a week and was not able to see the problem. Night after we got it back the lights were on again at 2 AM...
This car has been nothing but trouble. She backed into her aunt's car on our driveway in January; 360 camera system failed and did not warn her. Recall was announced days after. Still no fix for the recall :(
we told the insurance company about the recall but she is still at fault, had to pay $1000 deductible and insurance premiums have increased since her driving record is damaged. Anyone else had an accident when the 360 camera failed?

There's nothing like checking your surroundings particularly when backing up. Even the manual says to not rely solely on the electronic features..
Does she not have Reverse Brake Control turned ON? That feature makes it nearly impossible to back into anything.
I'm guessing that feature works independently of the camera but since my camera has never failed, I can't say for sure.
