My Lincoln
2022 Lincoln Aviator Black Label Grand Touring
Greetings all, I have a 6 month old, 2022 Black Label Grand Touring Hybrid that I generally plug in every night. Yesterday I didn’t dive more than a mile and therefore did not plug it in overnight. This morning I got an alert in my app that the car is in Deep Sleep mode. Any idea what would cause a new car to go into this mode within 24 hours of being driven? I appreciate any feedback.

Perhaps the owners manual can explain?

Nothing listed under “Battery” about it, it’s not mentioned in the Appendix either. I also checked under “Sync Trouble Shooting”

I would think only driving it less than a mile did not allow the system to charge, and its going to sleep mode is a good thing to save the battery and other electrical components. Not sure how EVs work, but I would think this is a good thing.

I believe it is a malfunction, because I drove almost 100 miles the preceding day, Saturday. I took a break on Sunday and only did a single round trip for the day, taking my pup to the groomer. I’m in real estate, so the car gets plenty of regular road time.

Oh, well, lol, that info would have been helpful in the first post. All I read was the less than a mile drive the day before. Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order. It is going to be very difficult for any of us to offer any reasonable causes of this.

Oh yes, haha. Just “1” day of less than a mile driving. Didn’t think it would be assumed as less than a mile since I bought the car 🙂 Already reached out to schedule a pick up. In the meantime, forums are generally where one with a unique circumstance can connect with another that perhaps had a similar experience.

Hi Avi. There are several existing threads which explain what "Deep Sleep Mode" is and why it is triggered by the Battery Management System. It would be a good idea to search for them and read the explanations...and/or read the section of the Owners Manual which explains what the Battery Management System is, and what the purpose of "Deep Sleep Mode" actually is, how/why/when it is triggered, etc.

Short story is that "Deep Sleep Mode" is a normal function of the Battery Management System, and it being activated is not necessarily a sign of a problem. However, there is no way to diagnose this over the Internet, and the experiences of others will not matter in this case, because there are multiple reasons that Deep Sleep Mode can be activated. Some are for simple/non-problem reasons (i.e. to save battery power in certain situations), while other activations are for problems (i.e. a failing battery or charging system issues).

So the activation of Deep Sleep Mode in your vehicle could be due to a myriad of reasons. It could be normal with nothing to worry about. Or it could be due to various issues, such as a failing battery, a charging system issue, a Battery Management System issue, etc. etc.

Keep us updated with your service appointment and good luck.

I have frequent experiences with Deep Sleep mode. I typically only drive my car on the weekends. So it basically sits for at least 5 days each week. Whenever I get in it, I see the display on the screen telling me the vehicle is in Deep Sleep mode. It asks me to start the vehicle to exit it. I do, and head out on my way. I have had no issues and have accepted that function to be normal for this vehicle.

Will do, and agreed - there is a limit to what can be accomplished without a formal evaluation.

I’ll be glad to share what I learn after pick up and diagnostics.

I appreciate your insightful response, thank you.

One recommendation is if this is the first time this has happened drive it again for a bit so it can recharge the 12v let it sit again and see if it comes back. Potentially something was left on or it didn't fully charge back up. If it keeps reoccurring a potential a battery issue.

concur. Although I've not yet labeled myself an Neanderthal - perhaps somewhere in between!

Update:
The "low voltage warning" happened again this morning, before I got it to the dealer just now. It appears it is simply a bad battery; which was likely weakened from sitting on the lot for 6+ months (waiting for me to discover it).

So, they believe installing a fresh battery will solve the issue - I expect it will.

I'm grateful for the troubleshooting tips and responses, thanks all.

Hi Avi. Happy to hear it was the simplest solution. And you are correct that the battery was probably adversely affected by 6 months of sitting on the lot.

Thanks for reporting back and good luck. 🍻
