Lights on approach

This is 2024 Nautilus Reserve

Hi Dave1946. Yes, if you have the "Lincoln Embrace"/Approach Lighting/Welcome Mat enabled in the vehicle settings, and have a keyfob with you/on your person when you approach the vehicle.

Also, after a set number or approaches without starting the vehicle, the "Lincoln Embrace" will disable itself until the next start. This is a battery saving feature. I believe it is 5 times in my 2018 MKZ.

Are you having a current issue, or just wondering?

Good luck.

That would be useful info to put in the "My Lincoln" field of your profile so it shows in the margin when you post. ;)

Also, the car has to be locked.

So what happens if the key fob is never actually out of range at home in the garage. You just never get the embrace there, I'd imagine? It's like your dog — you don't get that excited greeting unless you left it alone for a while?

Hi swindler. Yes…lol…that pretty much describes what happens.
The Lincoln Embrace will time out after the pre-programmed time period. And won’t re-enable until the next restart.

Not sure what will happen it times-out with the key fob within range, then subsequently the key fob is moved out of range, then back into range. Perhaps the Lincoln Embrace would be active again?

I’ll check next time I have a chance, and post back with the results. Or perhaps you or another forum member will beat me to it.

Keep us updated and good luck.

The range is approximately 8 feet.

I thought that the Lincoln Embrace lighting only worked when the car is locked. But every time I walk into the garage (and the car is UNLOCKED) the lights come on. Very unnecessary and a drain on batteries! Is this normal?

Welcome to the Forum Dan. 👋
No, that is not normal. If the vehicle is unlocked, the Embrace Lighting should not activate.

I've tested this pretty extensively. In my house, the range for the key fob is 30 feet! It's 20 feet for the phone. That's not a good thing and why I now store my key fob in a Faraday box.

Welcome Dan.

Question - How do you know the car is unlocked? There's no obvious way to tell and the car makes no mechanical sound when it locks and unlocks. I have my mirrors fold on locking. It's the only way that I can tell if the car is locked or unlocked.

So you can lock/unlock your vehicle from 30 ft away? If so, I wonder if someone without the fob on them could then open the door?

My guess is If Dan does the same thing as I do when pulling into the garage, he doesn't lock the vehicle so there should be no reason for it to be locked. Aside from the mirrors, I'm guessing if you swipe the Securicode panel it would show the locked symbol, although I haven't confirmed that.
Edit: Not sure if the Nautilus has that last feature.

It's a very interesting question and I think I have the correct answer from testing in my own home.

There's a difference between the car waking up with Lincoln Embrace lightshow and the car being able to be unlocked.

The car wakes up and light show starts with the key fob as far as 30' away. However, the car never physically unlocks until you pull the handle. And for that to happen, you need to have the key fob (or phone) on your person.

I've tested this a few times. The car will wake up from far away. But if I leave the key fob only about 8 feet way, it won't unlock. If I leave the key fob resting on the windshield wipers, it won't unlock. The key fob (or phone) must be with me when I pull the handle in order to unlock.

I think I saw somewhere that Lincoln uses (longer-range) RF for the Embrace feature, and (shorter-range) Bluetooth for unlocking. That's actually pretty clever, I think.

My guess is If Dan does the same thing as I do when pulling into the garage, he doesn't lock the vehicle so there should be no reason for it to be locked.
And do you experience the same thing as Dan having the Lincoln Embrace lightshow with the car unlocked? As I said above, Lincoln Embrace and the car locking and unlocking are independent of each other. So I'm sure that it's possible.

Regarding not locking your car, is the car theft issue not as prevalent in greater Ottawa as it is in GTA?

No, the Embrace Lights on mine do not come on if the vehicle is unlocked. They should only do so if the doors are locked and it detects the fob.
Vehicle thefts in the Ottawa area are also a problem. vehicle thefts in ottawa] - Google Search
I live outside of the city and this small town (officially a Police Village) isn't bad at all as far as I know. I've seen bicycles and other items left outside several times overnight and no issues. As in many places, very few people use their garage for its intended purpose and most vehicles are parked outside.

Hi gang. On a related matter… Just an FYI which may or may not help some Lincoln owners:
The mirrors being folded is not a 100% guarantee that the vehicle is locked.

Yes, the mirrors fold when we lock and close the doors. Or close and lock the doors…in either order. And in most cases, the mirrors being folded may/will mean the vehicle is locked.

However, there are circumstances where we can look at our vehicle and see folded mirrors, but the vehicle is actually unlocked, due to activities which we performed at some point after the vehicle was locked.

If anyone is confused about how this can happen, feel free to ask questions and we can elaborate.

Good luck.

I'll bite. How can it happen (unless the key or phone is left in the car as described above)?

I would state I have seen a light show while unlocked. If you recall, one light show was captured by my security camera and I was not even home. My phone beeps when it goes to sleep so maybe that car too.
