I have had some interesting things occur such as the screen going black while driving and then re-booting back. My husband had his seat setting disappear and had to reset it. My latest is the trunk opening with the foot. Carrying groceries I tried four times to get the trunk to open. Finally it did. But I had to manually close it. When I got home it worked fine. I don't know if it is gremlins or what. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the key fob?

1. Regular seat adjustment not to my liking. (Not enough travel). Dealer can't fix.
2. Steering wheel settings disappear. Have to reset or wheel ends up in my lap.

Been to dealer twice for each of the above. Reflashed computer but still has problems.

3. Front passenger express window switch needed replacing.
4. Front driver door "groans" when near the full open/closed position. Not from either hinge. Replaced door stopper rod. Door still groans. HOWEVER, after washing car, or driving in rain, no groans. (I'm not going to have them go into door again - I can live with it).

This is NOT a luxury car! Not by a long shot. My two 98 and one 02 Continentals (three all told) were much better cars. We loved those three cars. I expected my 2017 would be better. WRONG.

On item 1, the seat adjustment, in another of your posts you said the seat base can only go up and down and cannot tilt forward or back which is incredibly strange. The owners manual shows the switch positions for raising and lowering the front of the seat (all seats) and the same for the back of the seat. So the dealer must be able to correct that condition by a new seat or control buttons, etc. Have you specifically told your dealer about that?

On item 4, the groaning door, water can be a lubricant so have you tried a more durable lubricant for your door.

I think my car is a luxury model, even better than my Town Car and that is saying a lot.

Good luck

I'll try to explain better. First off, I have the Standard Seat, NOT the extra cost super duper extra cost seat. Also I'm talking about the SEAT, the part you sit on, NOT the Seat Back, the part you lean back on.

Front of adjustment knob is for the up/down for the Forward part of the seat. Rear of adjustment knob is for the up/down for the Rear part of the seat.

Problem is that the Forward part of seat does not adjust lower, and the Rear part of the seat does not adjust higher. I sit in a wedge. Dealer can't fix it and Lincoln says there is nothing they can do. I asked them to remove seat and install washers to make the rear of seat higher, but dealer can't do that without Lincoln authorization. I blame Lincoln, not dealer. To make me happy, my Lincoln Concierge person gave me a very good perk, at no cost to me. I can live with that also.

Door groaning is not coming from the two hinges. Also not from the door stop, which was changed under warranty. Something inside door, but I can live with it as I don't want them going inside the door again. The only time I hear it is when door is almost fully open.

As for your former Town Car, you are not really saying much, because my three former FWD Continentals had more luxury than the Town Cars of the era.

I just live with it, for now.

BTW; not all is bad. The SYNC-3 is much superior to the Sync in my former SHO, my two former MKZ's and two other brands I've had in the last ten years. Also, a/c is one of the best I've had. (My other car just as good but rare to have a/c this good),

You explained well enough the first time. You cannot level your seat; and your controls for the 12 way seats are the same as mine with the 24 way seats which levels just fine. I just don't understand why your seat does not work the same way as all the other 2017 Continentals I have tried. Something does not add up.

Good luck.

The Continental has some minor occurrences that are sort of annoying. Other than the screen going blank and then rebooting, the other day it would not sync my phone. I thought maybe my phone was not charged so I plugged it into my charger, still nothing. Pulled into a parking space and turned the car off and then on. The phone synced immediately. By the way my phone was already at 89% charge before I plugged it into the charger.
Just yesterday my foot would not open the trunk. I tried 4 times and it finally opened. I closed it with the button and after it closed I heard a groaning sound. Since I am going to the dealer tomorrow I will mention this event. See if they know what's going on or not. Maybe the fob needs a new battery?
:confused::confused:

I have not experienced your first two problems.

I agree the foot operated trunk sensor can be a bit difficult at times. I find the best success when my foot is centered under the license plate holder and close to the ground and just moves under the rear bumper. It usually works that way, rather than moving ones foot fully under the back of the car when it never works.

I have looked for the sensor but cannot find it. Perhaps your very accommodating dealer could show you its location and you could let us all know where it is and how to trigger it? My winter oil change and tire change at my dealer has not been scheduled yet. If you don't get any info, I will try, probably at the end of the month.

Good luck.

Just back from the dealer . Asked about all of the questions but really did not get any substantial answers.
He could not explain the intermittent causes for the Nav screen to turn off or why the phone would not sync.
Was in the shop and got to see the underside of the Conti. I can’t believe how the underside is covered with shields. Helped the tech by holding the shield while he fastened the other side. He showed me the approximate area of the sensor for the trunk. He said it has a wider area than I thought. He suggested to the left of the license plate works fine. I was wondering how the undercovers will hold up with a lot of driving through the years. When he took the cover off I was surprised to see how everything was still so shiny and like new. Compared to other cars that I had , the undercarriage was not covered and showed signs of road dirt, etc., this was quite an improvement.

Thanks for the update. So the sensor must be tucked up behind some panel and out of harms way. I tried the new location, completely to the left of the license plate mounting. It worked perfectly the first time. So I tried my usual position under the left side of license plate and it worked first time. Same under the right side of license plate. Tried completely to the right of the license plate and it worked the first time. So I think it has less to do with the horizontal position of your foot under the license plate and more to do with how far in you place your foot, just under the bumper works for me.

Those undercover panels are very durable. My son had two Mazda 3 models with those panels. They had to be removed to change the oil filter so we cut a round hole in the panel to access the oil filter. That worked fine and the panel did not deteriorate in 4 years for each car. I am sure the Continental panels will be just as durable.

Good luck.

And . . . you have a question or point?

This trunk open with the swing of our leg is never consistent from my personal opinion. I had a 2019 Navigator before my current 2019 Continental. Both were inconsistent with this functionality and most of my previous vehicles like Explorer, Tahoe etc. were the same.

For contrast, my 2017 Continental's trunk foot sweep function has worked 100% of the time, whereas my wife's escape with the same functionality works about as much as kkriskal describes. My wife even commented on how much better it was and wishes her escape performed like the continental.

Funny story I was standing near the trunk (with the key in my pocket) talking with my wife and her parents, when our dog ran under the trunk and set it off. It's pretty sensitive compared to other trunks like this, mine at least.

That's great to hear, maybe I am Not swinging my foot in the right place. Will do some more testing and see if I can find a sweet spot where it will work everytime.

I have a 2019 continental. Having similar issue. Driver seat setting and driver mirror setting seems to disappear after a few days. Sync 3 will sometimes crash with the iPhone. Latest issue is the volume knob won’t work when iPhone plugged in. I too notice the trunk-foot issue. Seems more responsive after car wash
