Gang,

I am thinking about buying a 2023 Aviator Reserve. When I say buying, I mean buying (wink), so I am interesting in getting as much info about the good, bad, and ugly from real owners. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Ours is a '21 Reserve and may have some options that are no longer standard, or even optional. All the "packages" have their upsides, but if you have a variety to choose from, I would suggest the illumination package as the headlights provide outstanding illumination. We already have an Expedition with 4WD, so didn't really need AWD in the desert, but my wife had certain color preferences, and it came on the vehicle that met all of those preferences. So far, it has been very trouble-free and gets a lot of compliments from people.

My suggestion would be to browse the threads here to see what members are discussing. Also, keep in mind that what one person may like, another does not. If you have a dealer in mind, see if you can take an Aviator (2021/2022) if they don't have a 2023, for a test drive to see if it even suits you.

Oh. Yeah. I’ve already test driven a 2023. I love it. I had a 2020 Navigator, and though it had its share of horror stories and negative reviews, mine was pretty much issue free and flawless for the time I leased it. This, you can’t go by the statistics, because you never know if you will be an outlier (good or bad) and you can’t go by one person’s story, because they too may have been an outlier. That being said, getting first person accounts is still useful.

I traded in my 2019 Nautilus for a 2023 GT BL. Couldn’t be happier. Pure luxury quite ride smooth everything you’d want in a car and more. It drives itself most of the time.

Just put a deposit down on an Asher Gray Aviator Reserve. It was already built and just awaiting shipping, so should be here in a month or so. Thanks much for all the comments!

I seem to be one of the few who would not buy an Aviator again. I like the style, interior and how it drives, but I'm disappointed with the whole EV/ICE mileage thing-nowhere near the sticker or salesman's figures. The technology is not as good as my previous Infiniti. With Apple Car Play you can't get to the audio controls without unplugging the phone. Access to the third seat is tough, as the whole seat just goes forward instead of the bottom folding up to give wider access. I can't believe the windshield wipers don't go down when the ignition is turned off; the water coming out of the wipers is cool, but it does not clean as well.

I recently posted my experience in this forum and it isn't good. If you haven't already read the post "2023 Aviator G.T. Problems", I recommend you do so and proceed with caution.

Good luck

Thanks much. I already locked in a Reserve. Hoping for a winner ;-)

I’m about three months in on my 2023 GT BL It’s sad to hear that some have had a poor experience. I must say so far my vehicle has been amazing and I love it. There are so many features that it takes a while to learn how to use them all but I love tech and so far every feature has worked as designed. It’s pure luxury and fun to drive. Also packed with safety features. I’ve had other high end cars but this is the first car I actually park at the far end of every parking lot and walk. I wasn’t sure if EV was for me but now that I’ve had it a while I really enjoy driving on pure EV. I get a kick out of coming back from shopping and not using any gas. I hope my experience stays this way because I know it sucks when you buy something and it doesn’t work the way you thought it would.

Re: CarPlay - doesn’t a Sync icon show up on your CarPlay screen that takes you back to the Aviator controls (if memory serves me right…wife has the car)

I agree about the wipers. There's definitely a problem with real life component testing before getting the build stamp. We just got ours, but I'm kind of pissed about getting a light coloured headliner, having ordered BLACK interior. We'll get something else before warr. runs out and wont likely be another Aviator.

After 10k miles, our 2022 Base has been wonderful.
Those who engineered the windshield wiper spray must be from Alfa Romeo .. lovely design, poor real-world execution.

Steel spring suspension, AWD with rear bias, and 400 non-hybrid horsepower is a recipe for great driving dynamics.

After Jags, Porsches, Genesises and Audis, the Aviator has exceed my wife's luxury demands and my sporting ones..
Enjoy!

Personally, I love my 2022 Aviator GT. Overall its been a good vehicle. My biggest grip overall is sync3 is a bit sluggish at times which is why I use a wireless dongle for android auto. That resolved the majority of my issues and id recommend you do something similar if you get it. The dynamic handling pack is really nice if you or your spouse is short and it improves an already excellent ride. For me the GT has been fine with both mileage, range, and reliability but your experience can vary. I also live in sunny California so its never really that cold here to affect range substantially. Also for me at the time the GT upgrade was "free" from all the rebates. 30-way seats in my opinion are a must but really up to you overall same with the best revel system but this is coming from someone who had an audio shop replace my speakers in my BMW M550 because the sound quality wasn't good enough. Lastly if you are planning to use the 3rd row seat id recommend getting the captains chairs that way kids can easily get in the back. I originally had a bench on my 2020 and was glad I went captains chairs on the 22 with no console.

I just got a 2023 Aviator Black Label and you made my day. I much prefer a AWD system be rear bias but can I ask how you found this information? I’ve been looking on the internet and this forum and you are the only one that answered my question.

Thanks

The CD6 Platform is by nature a front engine RWD platform. The base model Aviator is RWD and AWD is optional. The engine is longitudinally mounted and it's the front wheels that are connected through a transfer case..... need i say more?

Welcome to the Forum. 👋
I did a search (upper right) on the term RWD in this forum and came up with 3 pages of posts.;)
