I was repeatedly unsuccessful in getting the HomeLink my 2000 Continental to program. FYI, my garage door opener is a late 80's model that does NOT using the rolling code system, and has no "Learn" button.....but the basic fix should apply to rolling code systems as well.... one will just have to do the "learn" function after the initial steps.

So, if you are having problems programming the HomeLink, try this: Do the usual... with the ignition on, press and hold the 2 outer buttons for about 20 seconds until the HomeLink light flashes. This removes any existing programming. Then push and hold the button on your working remote, and immediately press and hold the HomeLink button that you want to use to duplicate the remote. Note that many remotes will only transmit for 2-5 seconds (the light on the remote stops flashing.) If yours does this before the HomeLink programs, just repeatedly press the button on your remote every 2 or so seconds. (This is in the Lincoln Owner's Manual under "Canadian systems" or similar.) The HomeLink light should flash slowly, then rapidly.

I tried this umpteen times without success, with the remote clipped to the visor immediately to the left of the HomeLink buttons. No joy, even though the instructions say to hold the remote 2-5 inches from the HomeLink buttons... mine was about inch or less away. On a whim, I held the remote just to he right and immediately over the buttons.... a VERY slight change of position.....but VOILA! The HomeLink programmed in about a second or two.

I Googled HomeLink programming problems until I was blue in the face but found no solution; this seems to be a common problem that crosses across many manufacturer's as one would expect, as the HomeLink system is not manufacturer specific.

Bottom line: If you are having issues programming your HomeLink, just try a) removing the current programming, and then b) try holding your working remote in a different and closer position relative to the HomeLink visor buttons!

Worked for me.... Hope this helps people!
