My Lincoln
2020 Continental
I just bought a used 2020 Continental Reserve from an out-of-state dealer. Once I took delivery, I discovered it was missing the spare and jack - the whole trunk was cleaned out! Honestly, who removes that when they trade-in a car? Anyway, I'm having trouble trying to find a replacement spare. The full-size tires on the car are 245/40R20. The only spares I see online (ebay) are 18 inch rims. Will those work? Any help is greatly appreciated!

The 18 may be teh correct size.

My second gen Navigator has 18s on the ground. The spare is a 17. That is how the ride was made. That original spare is still under there, 17 years later. Hope it stays that way.

I believe the tire sticker on the driver's door post states the different tires sizes.

Thank you! I do not know why I didn't check the tire sticker from the start. At least I know what I'm looking for now. Appreciate the help!

The correct compact spare for your car is T155/75/R18

Tires do not last forever. A 17 year-old spare tire may inconveniently let you down even if it has never been on the road. I would advise you to buy a used tire, but a newer tire, that is the right size and throw out the original. You don't want to get stranded with two flat tires.

You are correct. That original spare is not a tire to be trusted. It may be inconvenient, however it will not be unknown.
I have owned my Navigator for 7 years. Just getting ready to put my second set of 4 tires on it soon. Still not replacing the spare.
I just do not need a spare tire. Not even sure how much air is in it. It is a risk I am willing to take.

Contrast that to an earlier experience I had about 30 years ago towing a dual axle travel trailer with an E 150.
Had two flats on the same trip within a couple of hours of each other.
The single spare only went so far, before a second tire went over a road hazard and was toast.
I was in Mexico at the time. The nearest Mexican tire shop in Rocky Point did not have any radial tires in my size.
I brought my two bad tires on rims and bought two bias ply tires.
I have first hand experience of the reason not to mix bias ply with radials. It was not fun driving.
When I got back to Phoenix I bought four new radial tires. Kept the bias ply for my trailer which already had bias ply.
