I've done a lot of reading on the Driver Door Module (DDM) issues on the Town Car and my guess is that the reason my replacement DDM didn't solve my problem is because it came from a vehicle that had a higher level of options - memory seats and memory mirrors as an example.

Here's the back story:

I bought a 2003 Town Car and the "Door Ajar" light on the IP would never go off. I cleaned and lubricated all of the door lock assemblies and the problem continued. I bought a DDM from another 2003 Town Car that had the exact same part number and while that solved my "Door Ajar" problem it created a new problem where I cannot lock or unlock the car with the power door locks.

Here's what I know:

I know there's not a problem with the power door lock switch, actuators or wiring because the door locks work perfectly when I have the original DDM installed.

I also know that all of my "Door Ajar" sensors/wiring are working correctly. The reason I know this is when I have the replacement DDM installed and I'm listening to the radio after I've turned off the vehicle I tested each door and every one of them turned the radio off when I opened the door.

I also know that while the part number of the DDM (3W1T-13C791-AH) is exactly the same for modules the "Nest" number is different - the "Nest" number on the original is 1 and on the replacement it's 2. I'm not sure what the "Nest" number is or whether it might be important.

Here's what I'm hoping to learn:

Is my guess right that the problem is likely that the replacement DDM came from a vehicle with a higher level of options - even thought the part number is identical?

Is there any way to reprogram the replacement DDM that I have to get it to work with my 03 Town Car or is my only option to find another DDM from a vehicle that has the same level of options that my vehicle has?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide and I'll be happy to provide more information if needed.

Welcome! Check the thread out below but the short answer is yes, you need to get a DDM with your same options to guarantee it will work. You can reprogram the DDM in ForScan, but if it's the wrong model it won't matter.

Thanks for the information.

I remember scanning that thread when I was first learning about the DDM issues. I guess I'll have to continue my search for another DDM - I see they have some on eBay. I called a couple of wrecking yards that had 2003 Town Cars on Car-Part.com but they were not too helpful.

Thanks again for the information and I hope you have a great week.
