This set of procedures allows replacement of the front door handles, but appears to require a Ford IDS scanner for some operations. Another post will cover the rear door handles.

The procedures for the rear door handle replacement are far simpler than for the front doors. It appears an IDS scan tool is still required as noted.

The procedures are attached.

In looking at post #1 and the second procedure which describes the outside mirrors removal the last step to removal is "6. Remove the bolts and the exterior mirror." The installation is reverse of removal, so you do not take the mirror apart which would require the IDS scanner to orient cameras etc.

Now is it absolutely necessary to replace all four door handles or could I replace just the one door handle that stopped working or is this just something that Lincoln does to insure another handle wouldn’t stop working at a later date? And since my car doesn’t have any cameras on the side mirrors I wouldn’t need any programming?

If you are out of warranty you only need to replace the failed handle.

The reason Lincoln required all 4 door handles be replaced if one failed is because of updated components in the door handle. I had all 4 replaced initially under warranty and when one light failed on a rear door handle (some time later) just that one handle was replaced under warranty.

I, too, had all four replaced under warranty even tho only the left front was compromised. Appears to be an issue with the 2016 - 2017 builds.

So in order to replace the exterior door handle you have to remove the glass??

No. Just the door panel. It’s pretty easy.

When removing the handle does the window suppose to be rolled up or down in order to remove handle ?

So I removed the panel and the only way to remove the handle is you have to take the glass out there two bolts for the handle and the glass is in the way anyone replace handle before?

I did this twice and it was easy. The glass does not have to come out. I really don’t remember without looking at it but I assure you the glass does not have to come out. The hardest part is putting the screws/bolts back in without dropping them into the door.

All the way up
