How many miles are usually on the car between oil changes when the check engine light comes on? Thanks

I am not sure the "Check Engine" icon in yellow/orange comes on when an oil change is due. It may be semantics, and my error. I change my oil at 3,500 miles, which is usually around a year.

Hi D.L. Adams. Are you referring to the "Check Engine" light, or a "Change Oil Soon" type of warning light? As "LGMcK" stated, the "Check Engine" light does not illuminate to notify it is time for an oil change.

If your "Check Engine" light is coming on, you have an engine problem, not an oil change warning.

If you are referring to a "Change Oil Soon" type of warning light, then the interval can vary according to model year.

You would need to check your Owners Manual or Maintenance Schedule for the correct oil change interval for your model year.

If you don't have the hard copies, you can download the PDF versions here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

X2^^ Check engine light means there is a problem with the engine and does not indicate the need for an oil change

Thank you for your reply.
