Thank you.

I just dropped my hybrid off for the Fuel Injector fix (yay!) and he (service advisor) mentioned two other software updates that he deemed major (I already had the last "major" update installed when I took delivery of my car three weeks ago). I asked if it had to do with the battery drain issue, and he had a blank look and then said no.

I left today convinced he was pretty clueless about the issues we discuss here. He was still under the impression the fuel injector issue either happens within the first 100 miles or not at all. He stated the fuel injector replacement itself should be a full day project (contrary to what others here have said), and with the other updates it will be a couple of days.

Fortunately, the loaner they provided was a loaded Navigator with 19 miles and I watched him peel the sticker off the window ($111,000), so I am good for a couple of days lol.

These added software updates are not shown to customers when they sign into their account. They are not updates that they want you to schedule an appointment to fix just these updates. They are updates that the dealer can see when your car is brought in for other service. They are supposed to apply the fixes at that time. Customers are also not being sent a letter announcing these updates. Knowledge of them has become common in this and other Internet sources, however. So we all know about them. Both of the recent updates were just announced within the last 2 weeks. I had mine installed when they fixed my fuel injectors and shock absorbers last week.

Thanks. Any idea what they are intended to fix?

24P08 - The Driver Status Monitor Camera may stay awake with the ignition off under low temperature conditions. This may result in a battery drain and a vehicle no-start condition.

24P14 - The Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) may stay awake and unintentionally keep the Controller Area Network (CAN) active. This may result in a battery drain and a vehicle no-start condition.

Those are the exact word of the CSP notices the dealer should have read. So your service guy isn't owning up to the issue or didn't pay attention to the details IF he ever read them.

Thanks Cliff. Curious if you know if those are lengthy updates or not. Wondering why my guy said they would have my car for at least 2 days. And this service advisor doesn't seem to pay attention to ANY details with regard to this vehicle!

Speaking of the camera issue, my customer service coordinator mentioned that they're waiting on the injector clips "just like they were waiting on the cameras". It implied to me that they were waiting on parts to fix a camera issue. Anyone know what that is?

Here are the nominal durations for the two battery drain items that recently came up.

Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM), the one that can keep the CANBUS alive

Uhm, hades will freeze over before they get "the cameras", since it's strictly a firmware reprogram, budgeted for under an hour to accomplish. The firmware they're to load should already be accessible via FDRS - if they don't know how to use that, time for a call to Lincoln corporate.

My dealer needed 3 days to get all my updates/fixes done. They originally estimated 2 days. They mentioned that it took them longer than anticipated to get the large software update to start. They finally got it to work.

Yeah, I'm just reporting what I was told. Specifically, I was told they are sending the cameras as seed stock, so they were waiting on those.

I thought there may be a different issue than the one already described above. That's why I was asking.

Just curious, are these issues just for the hybrid or do they affect the gas models too?

Both hybrid and ICE, I expect, as both list start of affected vehicles starting in early September (hybrid didn't start build until Oct), and much higher numbers of affected vehicles than for the hybrid injector CSP (12,600 vehicles on one, almost 15,000 on the other, vs. around 6,500 for the injectors).

Has your dealer had any injector fails? My dealer had not had any so when I called to discuss they did not think it was a major issue. Of course, "major" can mean not many fail or "no major damage event". Far too many fails ended up with engine replacements from what is posted here and on Facebook. It was the latter that concerned me especially when they were not obviously prepared with spare engines (long blocks).

If the vehicle behaves as one expects, I would not see the dealer again for 7000 miles or so and that is about 8 months for me. They owe me a complementary car wash (do that myself) but an excuse.

What did the work order say the two software updates were? It would reference a CSP, etc.
