My Lincoln
2004 Lincoln Towncar
Hello all I am a new owner to a 04 Lincoln town car. I bought with 90k original miles. It needs a tune up for sure but noticed when I drove it back home (1 hour away)

when I got out the car with keys in my hand the radio was still on. I stayed by the car and it never turned off. Then I noticed that the driver and passenger window switches were still illuminated.

Immediately jumped on google and have read up that it’s dope ajar switch.

So I disconnected the battery and thought I’d join the forum to get more insight and opinions on the car since I’ve never had one. Love to get pointed in the right direction or just ownership tips thanks.

Welcome!

The radio and windows are supplied power via an "Accessory Delay Relay" which, as you mentioned should turn off when a door is opened. A bad door switch could cause this but there are other possibilities. The Accessory Delay Relay should turn off after a time period even if no doors are opened. I don't know that time is but have heard it's about 30 minutes.

To see if it's the driver's door ajar switch, get in the car through the passenger door, put the key in and turn it on. It doesn't matter if you actually start the car or not. Turn the radio on. Turn off and remove the key. Normally the radio will stay on. Open the passenger door. Normally the radio will turn off. If it stays on it's likely not door ajar switches (unless both are bad).

If it's not the door switch I'd guess either LCM or the Accessory Delay Relay itself.

I had the same problem a while back. It is the drivers door keyless entry module. I got one on eBay for $140.
You will have to take the drivers door inner panel off and it is right there in the upper right side.
Make sure that the one you buy is for the correct vin that is your car.
You will also need to copy down the keyless code from the new unit.
After installing you will need to reprogram you fobs and put in your personal code for the keyless entry.
Also save the keyless code somewhere. (From the new module. You will need it if you want to reprogram in the future.
Not a huge job. About an hour.
There are lots of tutorials on utube on how to take the inner panel off. Only 6 screws.
The bottom 3 are a little hard to find. But if you watch the videos it will be easy. Only Simi special tool is a #25 torx bit for the screw by the door handle.
Best of luck to you

Just a bit confused here...

The 2004 doesn't have a dedicated Keyless Entry Module. That functionality is part of the Driver's Door Module.

Here is the part and what it is called. This listing is current on ebay

Agreed... the listings on EBay reference it as a Keyless Entry Module. They can call it whatever they want.

On the label it says "DDM" (Driver Door Module) and it is referenced in all Ford documentation as a Driver Door Module.

Guess we'll just have to deal with different names for the same part.

That is also the name I was told at the dealership.
They told me that they could not get the part and to either hit up wrecking yards or the internet.
Guess they were just telling me what everyone else calls it.
Either way it fixed my problem.
And also was told to get the part number off the old one before buying one as they are not interchangeable.

To get back to the OP, the Accessory Delay Relay (ADR) also turns off after a time delay.

The Lighting Control Module (LCM) directly controls the ADR. The only connection of the door ajar switches is to the Driver Door Module (DDM). There does not appear to be any physical wire for the DDM to tell the LCM that a door is open. Therefore the door ajar signal to the LCM has to be via the network.

I don't know if the ADR time delay is implemented in the LCM or the DDM. I'd try turning the radio on and turning off the key through an open window and then waiting to see if the radio turns off after a while. If it does, then the LCM is properly controlling the ADR and the DDM is likely the culprit. Of course, if the radio stays on it could be that the delay timer is in the DDM and the DDM isn't talking to the LCM.

As an aside, the courtesy lights are controlled by the LCM so if the courtesy lights work as intended then the DDM is talking to the LCM. But we still don't really know if the courtesy lights' door ajar signal from DDM to LCM is the same signal as used by the LCM to turn off the ADR.

I don't know that my rambling above says anything useful but I offer it a food for thought.

Ok fellas finally had time, I went to the junk yard and tried to get a new piece. It was completely the wrong piece.

So I disconnected the door module and still did the same thing opened the door closed the door few times radio still on while key was out.

Adding some pictures hopefully help someone out there who can point me in the right direction before I go spend 150+ on eBay

Disconnecting the door module won't help trouble shoot it. The problem is if your ddd isn't working. That is the same thing as disconnecting it.

Sit in the vehicle and let it idle with all doors closed. Does the door ajar light appear on the dash? If so, then you have door jamb switch issues

The door ajar light doesn’t appear on the dash. So get a door jamb switch do you recommend new or used?

Aaah gotcha I thought it would at least kill the power to the switch so it wouldn’t drain the battery. The DDD is the driver door module or what’s DDD and where do I get one?

So I noticed on these parts the starting number is different mines starts with 4WIT and eBay one is 3WIT anyone know if that matters?
