Just got a 2005 and I’ve been looking at a lot of Town Cars and decided I really like the chrome on the B pillars. I see they make cover trim for this and I’d like to know if any of you have installed these trim pieces. If so, who makes the best quality trim and do ya think it’s worth doing.

Hi Bb. Here is a general Google link to "2005 Lincoln Town Car B Pillar trim": 2005 Lincoln Town Car B pillar trim - Google Search

And here is a more specific link to chrome B pillar trim: AutoAnything™ - America's Auto and Truck Accessories SuperStore

I have purchased small things from AutoAnything in the past, my sister purchased wheels from them for a car I gave to my nephew, and they have been reliable, at least for us. And keep in mind there are many other sources for this chrome trim, so take a look around.

Now the opinion part (only because you asked): Personally, I don't care for it. However, it is your car and my opinion is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. ;)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Well, the black is really worn and dull. Maybe a detail shop could make it shine again. I will check that out
Thanks for your input

Hi Bb. It is your car. The heck with my opinion. Make it look how you would like it to look. :)

Let us know how you make out and good luck!

Sorry, I meant to post last night but got sidetracked.

By most accounts, the stick-ons don’t look as good as the factory chrome. But from what I’ve seen elsewhere on this Forum you pretty much have to disassemble the entire door to install those things. Well, not this boy! I expect the same applies even for replacing the black ones as well.

While maybe not ultimately as good as the stock pieces, from that I see from pictures the stick-ons still look really nice. And what from what I’ve seen with the reviews of the stick-ons, they work well. But, they say the adhesive is really good so you only got one shot at getting them on right. That’s kind of scared me from them. I don’t think I’ve seen anything on long-term reliability though.

As far as which are best, just peruse the Amazon reviews, paying particular attention to the 1-stars to see if there are any relevant issues (i.e. more substantial than poor customer service).

Wayne A. Pflughaupt

Yeah, sticking them on scares me too. If I can get the black ones to shine up I’d be happy with them
Thanks

dulling of that black is pretty common, it sucks. I've made mine presentable a couple times using a combination of polishes and wax, and I think a random orbital buffer last time. Business being what it is in the plague era you might find a body shop that'd be happy to go at em, or a detail shop even. I've considered the chrome covers, not ideal but hey. Also thought about having a place that does vinyl wraps look at them and see if they could wrap them in something. Not sure if that's viable or not. They are a pain in the rear part though for sure.

Hi, Babyburr.

You asked for "opinions," so I'll add mine to the mix.

The other posters have nicely covered the pros and cons of installing either chrome overlays or replacing the trim panels outright. As for the "nice shiny black vs chrome look," that is individual choice.

Depending on your skill level at detailing, I would either attend to the panels myself or have a good detail shop do it for you as part of an overall detailing of the car. The panels are plastic. I've had good luck on mine using the same top-quality plastic polishing compounds you would use to polish the headlights where they were either never clear-coated or where the clear-coating has completely failed. Because of the tight quarters to other stuff that doesn't like to be machine polished with plastic polishing compounds, I would (and do on mine) do the job by hand.

Good luck.

My black pillar panels were also kind of dingy when I got the car ('03) six years ago. I looked like some sort of oxidation, I figured from years of peoples hands on them. Anyway, I just cleaned them well every time I wash the car and keep fingerprints wiped off, and wax often with Johnsons Ice spray. They have improved dramatically, gotten "blacker" and shinier. I'm happy. They blend in with the dark tint windows as well.

I will certainly try that. Thanks

I put the chrome stick-on B-pillar posts on my 2007 Signature a year ago and they look great. They were standard on the Designer series and these look as good as factory. You will not get the black part to look good again. Someone on Lincolnsonline did it a few years ago (replacing the black trim) and it was a monumental job-not easy.

I'm sure a professional detailer can make them shine again, and then you can take care of them by protect them with some wax now and then.
I found a OEM chrome pillar post, but I have not seen them on ebay since I bought mine, but if you buy OEM then you have to replace the pillar including get access to the screws that hold them. There is some tech guide how to do to replace them.

That’s what I’m gonna try first. I just had my windows tinted today and I asked the installer if they did wraps and he said he could wrap the B pillars. So, if my detailer can’t make em shine, I may just wrap them.
